Self Learning Your SAFC

For those who lost their instructions for the SAFC install or who have an early model THAT DID NOT MENTION THE SELF LEARNING of the SAFC, well here is a page out of the manual. See step 5 in particular.

If not using the TPS but using the pressure sensor instead ......then I'd suggest investing in a MittyVac to apply pressure to your boost/pressure sensor then vacuum to it, so it can *SELF LEARN* in a hurry. So here's the jpg if the site allows me to post jpg's ( I doubt it very much).......

Well, this site does not do jpgs, so here is a link to the other site that does jpgs (it seems to function in all areas by the way, not just some selected services): http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/showth...threadid=28915

i just tapped into the TPS and had it learn off the TPS and then moved it back over to the pressure sensor.

I'm still new to SAFC, so that method troubles me a touch. The reason is that the voltage on a pressure/boost sensor drops down to less than a 1volt figure when in full vacuum and depending on where the pickoff from the boost/pressure sensor is located, the upper voltage will not be the same voltage that you see on a TPS at full travel. Like I said, I'm still mulling things over and playing around.

Like the full voltage on a boost sensor will be in the range of 3.65 if picked off after the fcd and the TPS upper limit is 4.55 volts or there abouts.

I forget right now what the upper limit is on a boost sensor with the pickoff prior to the fcd. Just mulling.

hailers: mittyvacs do positive pressure? If so, how? I've got one and I don't have a manual for it, and it'd be great if I could get it to work with positive pressure!

MITTYVAC's put out pressure on the top nipple, vacuum on the front nipple. Just remove the hard plastic cap and put it on the front nipple, as shown in this picture and put your output hose on the top where the hard cap was.

Sorry, this MITTYVAC does not show pressure on the gauge, although it does put out pressure. I connected this one to the Autometer Boost Gauge and got 12psi out of it. So the lack of a gauge on the MITTYVAC is a bit of a handycap. But can be overcome by your noggin.

Ain't a gonna even try to post a jpg on this site. Go here to see a Mittyvav set for pressure output: http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/showth...threadid=28922

Sweet, that's fine by me though, didn't know how to make them do it! Thanks (I can just hook it to my blitz boost gauge to figure out the pressure) Trying to test my damn MBC and wastegate, yipee.

Actually I'm not concerned about the percent figures much at all. Once you know what atmospheric pressure is in percent (Zero on the boost gauge), that's all one really needs to know. Because whatever the percent figure is on the monitor when your boost gauge is at zero, that is the percent where boost happens/begins. I'm just exercising my fingers, that's all.

the output of hte pressure sensor is 0V to 5V, remember paul stokes FCD? he figured out the voltage pressure relationship.

The TPS gives 0V at zero % throttle and 5V at 100% throttle.

You don't really need to have it super acurate, you are just trying to increase the range for the safc . So when you put the TPS wire back on pressure sensor the pressure sensor at 12 psi is like maybe 88% or something like that, and 8 psi is like maybe 60% (i'm pulling these numbers out of my *** ofcourse)

So you have the low point set at 60% and and high at 99% that way you are only manipulating the section of the boost where the stock ECU can not.

When pulling a vacuum of 20mm/hg the boost sensor is putting out .125 volts and two out of two boost sensors that I own only go up to 4.10 volts (circumventing the fcd). Actually anything over 53% (thats zero psi on my cars, differs on others I'm sure) I'm going to set as the High range setting. And I ain't a gonna add fuel either. I'm taking it OUT. I don't consider readings in the 10-11 afr too neat a thing.
