screaching sound on light accel in 1st and 2nd
Ok I have this problem. When my car warms up and I am driving around, when ever I give it some gas there is this god awful screeching noise... kinda like the sound a cat would make if you threw water on it (times 100). So I have been looking at the engine bay while revving and it appears it is coming from the front. I am thinking either old/nonsticking belts, or water pump, or alternator, or fan clutch? Those are the only possibilities since I have no AC, airpump or powersteering. I am pretty sure I have heard this sound from some other cars before. What do you guys think?

When you got rid of the airpump, you caused your problem. You got rid of a belt that helped turn the water pump. They make double sheave aftermarket pulleys to correct this. See this site and look under eccentric shaft pulleys http://www.mazdatrix.com/b9.htm

Thanks guys, thats what I thought. I already have double sleave pulleys... The problem was the noise was so loud I couldnt isolate it to just the belts
