There is no OBD scan tool for your 1987 RX-7.
Mazda does sell a tool for downloading codes though and it has some minor other features.
Go to MAZDATRIX and look for TOOLS.
I attach a jpg from that site showing it. Tell you what. YOu look at their price (which I have not this day, honest Injun)) and I'll sell you one of those for 1/3 their price. A good buddy deal if I ever heard one. LIke Billy Mays said, dont let this good deal pass you by (something like that). Deal won' t last. Act NOW. May be gone by sunset. That's two thirds off the MAZDATRIX price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Probably the only way anybody can check out if his 86-91 has a problem. Act now before.....it's toooo late. Sunsets in a couple of hrs.

If:
IF you want a 'scan tool', Hailer's deal above sounds unbeatable.
If you decide you want a cheaper solution, with a minmal amount of effort you can read the trouble codes without a checker. See the websites below (depending upon if your car is an S4 or an S5)
Reading 2nd generation RX7 trouble codes:
1986 – 1988 (Series 4)
http://www.teamfc3s.org/info/article...odes/main.html
1989 – 1992 (Series 5)

I can assure you I had NOooooooooooooooo idea two LED lights from RadioShack were cheaper than the Digital Code Checker from Mazda. Honest enjun and cross my heart etc.
Offer still stands. It's got this real neat GREEN light that flashes when the 02 sensor/ECU are *in the loop* so to speak. Hardly ever used item. Low milage. Low wear. Neat black color. Has a strap to carry it about. If I remember right, NUMBERS show up on the screen when a fault is detected. None of that counting LED light pulses. How 'bout them there apples?
Did I mention it has a BEEPER???? No LED is going to do that for you! Comes at no extra cost. I even have the instructions printed online in the FSM. Fuel and Emissions section. I charge nothing for a read of the instructions online.
I need to try this out on EBAY.
Need the money prior to sending the unit. No refunds ...ever.
See the jpg attached.

As Billy Mays would say YES, THERE IS ANOTHER WAY!
I also have a SUZUKI compression tester for a RE5 Suzuki. For those who don't get around, the RE5 was a ROTARY engine. Not only that, there was a compression tester made for that rotary engine.
Guess who has one??? Yes, this is YOUR last chance to BUY this little dandy. Don't wait. Send money befor the sun rises tomorrow. Send cash only. I attach a couple of jpgs of this HARDLY EVER USED piece of high tech equipment. No instructions will be attached. It's so, well so intuitive how to use it, that no instructions are required.
Its finished in the RARE color BLUE! A real collectors item! I'm selling it cheap. No, not $200 bucks, but another good buddy deal at $99.99 (cash up front, extra for shipping {about $50 extra without insurance}.
Note the special rubber boot over the alligator clip in the third jpg. Nooooooo extra cost for that if bought before dawn of the next day! Wire the money NOW! Don't wait. Call 555-555-5555 NOW! Limited supply.
And Yes, the threads on the Suzuki tester are compatible with your rip roaring RX-7. Did I mention the limited supply?
DON'T be fooled into buying one of those new testers that use Transducers to sense the pressure. They require electricity to run them. The way things are going, there will soon be blackouts due to the windmills not turning. And that will happen JUST as your in the middle of your compression test!
I might try to sell this on Amazon instead of EBAY.
