SC before throttle plates

I was wondering what exactly are the negatives of having a SC such as a whipple or eaton before the throttle plates. does it require a bypass and BOV as zbrown had in his setup in that long write up he did? Are there losses in performance because of that placement?

Without the bypass and/or BOV it would create pressure behind the throttle plates when you completely let go of the gas, like shifting. When got on the gas and re-opened the throttle plates it would create a boost spike that could blow your engine.

K, that was exactly what I was looking for thanks

yeah I figured as much about that stuff, but wasn't sure if there was some other reason why you shouldn't do it

The bypass valve is to help compensate for the AFM (MAF? whatever...) so it'll read the correct pressure and keep your ECU from running rich on down revs. I'm not entirely certain how it works, but it can't be that hard.
