Is it safe to leave a car on jack stands overnight?

It's sitting on the top of my driveway, which is flat.

I've had my car on stands for almost a year, but I probably wouldn't do that if I were you. I see no problems of having it up there just for 1 night, just know the longer it is like that, the longer it is going to take for the springs to readjust to it's proper height. But 1 day should take maybe a couple minutes to lower the car again.

As long as some hooligans don't try to push it off the stands.

Having a car on jack stands in a garage is one thing. Having a car outside in your driveway on jack stands is another. Outside it is vulnerable to thieves who will now have easy access under the car and pranksters who may see it as an opportunity to **** your **** up and push it off the stands. 1 night may be ok, but it sorta depends on what kind of neighborhood you live in. In a safe neighborhood or in your garage, I wouldn't worry to much about it. I've left my car on jack stands overnight in my driveway here but I don't live in a bad area. If I did live in a bad area theres no way in hell I'd leave it on jackstands over night.

Yeah, I live in a pretty rural area, but I'm just going to wait until tomorrow just to be safe.

Although once my parents clean out the garage, I'll take full advantage of that.

Your best bet from now on is to search before you post, it'll save you some embarrassment. Read the FAQ section and browse the archives. Buy a Haynes manual and in no time the people in Autozone will know you by name >_<. I went from knowing nothing to tearing cars completely apart etc. These cars are great for learning.

Block the front wheels and jack it from the rear diff, then put the stands under it at the proper jack points listed in the FAQ.

Me too. I usually roll the front up onto ramp stands, then jack the *** end and put the jackstands under. That's the only way I can get a creeper under the car, and I am a skinny little bitch

You don't need to jack the car up to remove the bumper.

These cars are gonna spend time on jackstands. Its just something they do from time to time.

Always block the wheels that stay on the ground when lifting the car. FSM has some pics. on the subject (see link in my sig.).
