Question safe boost level???

I just installed a 2.5" turbo back exhaust on my s4 the only other mods are a cone intake and apexi BOV. Im boosting 10-12 PSI, in 1st and 2nd gear boosts to 12 then drops in high RPM boost creep I assume havnt ported the waste gate. I was wondering whats a safe boost level and what else I should do so I dont blow my engine up????

Thanks

To me 12 is probably the absoulute most with a stock turbo and IC. Run 10 to be safe. But thats just me. You could boost more but its kinda trimming on a thin line.

I personally would not run over 9-10 with the stock fuel pump.

I hope you have an FCD... Get a better fuel pump, better injectors, or bye bye engine.

Glad to see you got your boost problem fixed. 12 psi is pushing it. 10 psi is safe for a daily driver running premium. Of course a rebuild is only $2500. Been there done that chipped an apex

This is what I'm running, and been running for 6 months on my 87 T2, getting 20+ mpg, boosting 10 psi

FD fuel pump - Cheap in the 3erd gen parts for sale, plug & play.
Port your wastegate - You don't need a monster port for what you have, one like reted's fc3s pro site will do you fine.
Rteck 1.5 - My next upgrade will be version 1.7 and larger secondaries.

With that setup I can punch it hard all the way to redline and the only thing I have blown is vac lines off at max boost.

I dont have a FCD yet, I went to the pet store and bought a couple 1 way check valves and "T"ed them in befor the boost senser, no more fuel cut off! its only temp. though.LOL

so FD fuel pump port the wastegate and get an Rteck 1.5???
Im also gonna remove the rats nest, ACV and EGR and in a month or so when I have money ill send my turbo to be rebuilt theres some oil on the turbo outlet and theres a lil play not a hole lot but its about time to have it done.

if you are seeing 10-12 psi in 1st and 2nd then congrats...or your boost gauge is off...In 3rd and up I can see that much boost with any size downpipe..
Boost creep is boost going beyong a specified amount ..not down....the drop you are seing at higher rpm is normal for the stock turbo but it is not called boost creep.

your psi amount is ok..but liek I said, if you are running that much in 1st and 2nd then you SHOULD see very high boost in 3rd and up and that is bad

well cause I put those check valves in to stop fuel cut I moved the boost gauge line "T"ed it into the line going to the BOV is that an accurate Boost source???
Would just replacing the fuel pump with a FD pump and a Rtec 1.5 be enough to keep my engine safe???

does any one agree with this??? Im having my engine rebuilt so I dont want to blow it, Would a rtek 1.5 ported wastegate and a FD fuel pump and stock injectors be enough???
Thanks

who is doing your rebuild? you should look into a street port job while its apart. its cheap horsepower. i would also recommend the some fuel system upgrades, such as pump, and secondary injectors and/or having your injectors cleaned professionally. the rtek sounds like a great upgrade, i am awaiting my 1.5 chip in the mail and then sending my ecm out for the 1.7 after i get my secondaries. with the rtec chip you dont need a fcd as it is built in. I currently have a fresh jspec with great compression (thanks to enginedepot.com), 3in turbo inlet duct mod utilizing cheap crx intake kit that i cut down, fcd from teamfc3s.org (built myself) fully ported exhaust housing (wastegate, and inlets widened and blended), most emissions removed (thanks to where i live not tested!!) 3 in turbo back from ssautochrome, removed and plugged twin-scroll, greddy type s bov, and safc. i hit an easy 10-11 psi first and 12-15 in the rest. pulls like hell. doing a walbro pump and 720cc injectors with Rtek 1.7 in a few weeks.

Fuego racing here in florida is gonna do my rebuild as soon as I tow the car in im gonna look at how much porting the housings and 3mm seals are...I have a FD fuel pump already Im on a tight budget due to the rebuild and so I just wanted to see if the Rtek 1.5 with stock injectors and FD fuel pump will be able to do the job and keep my engine safe. Im also gonna have my injectors sent off to be cleaned. I should be runnig about 8-10 in first and second and 10-12 in the rest...but I also need to port the wastegate.

Or get a wideband and keep an eye on you're AFR's so you don't run too lean. I am on the stock pump, with racing beat cat back, I get 10psi on cold nights around here. My AFR's are in 10, 9's area. So thats plenty rich to keep me happy. I will upgrade my pump when I have time, or see the AFR's dip into 11's on full 3rd gear pull.

Those damn widebands are expensive though. Helpful but expensive...

Yeah I cant afford a wideband and Im prolly not gonna do anymore mods other then what I got except for 720's eventually unless I need to get them to keep my engine safe.
