SAFC Question

I have a 87 base, and want to put in an Apexi SAFC. The thing is I have a new VAFC. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could use the VAFC in the place of the SAFC? All that I knoe is that the difference between the 2 is that the VAFC has a Vtec crossover point adjustment. (correct me if I am wrong) So my reasoning is that it should work but not all to sure.

Isn't the S-AFC for boost applications like with turbos?

No thats the AVC-R. The V-AFC is an S-AFC but it can control the vtec point or something like that. Not sure if it will work though, just contact Apex'i directly for the best answer.

Doesn't the SAFC modify the signal output of the AFM?

So what would the benefit of either one of these be to a N/A motor?

It will work, however the vtec feature in it will be 100% useless. Im not sure (doubt they would) if they make a harness for a v-afc to hook up to our cars though.

Just because a N/A doesn't have a turbo doesn't mean the air/fuel ratio can not be tweaked. With upgrades to exhuast, intake, injectors, and porting the a/f is not going to just magically stay stoich <SP>

stoich is not what you want, stoic is just for the best emissions/fuel economy. But yes you are right, with tuning any motor can gain power, especially after mods.

I gotcha. And I looked up what a S-AFC, V-AFC, and AVC-R do and I now know the difference.

Thanks guys

wow thanks for the quick responses! ^_^ yeah I am aware the vtec function will be 100% useless, its jus I have one on hand so I wanted to know if I can use it instead of shelling out more $$ for an SAFC. But I will send Apexi an email to confirm!

Sell the vafc and buy a safc. Like I said I doubt the harness will connect.

If you're up to it,you may be able to make your own harness ASSUMING that the V-AFC is just the S-AFC with the V-tec feature tacked on. Maybe you could use the Vtech line to control your 5th and 6th ports...

I have the harness for the VAFC and all that stuff. From what I can remember its just cables that I actual have to wire into my factory wiring harness isnt it? I was thinking that I would be able to hook it up but would have no where to tap into for the VTEC signal.
Aaron: hmm thats an interesting idea ^_^ except wouldnt I have to go with an electronic port system?
dr0x: yeah I'm working on that lol, its jus hard to get full value out of it, well enough to get a VAFC anyways. If anyone has a SAFC and wants to trade straight across ;P

Well yes, you would have to convert to electric ports.
