S5 Turbo wastegate porting, and various pictures

Well I took a few hours today and ported the wastegate on my S5 exhaust housing. I wanted to post up a few pics to let people see, and to also get an opinion , can I go bigger, or should this be good enough? 1st off, I ported it with a grinding bit attached to my air drill. Seemed to work well, although kinda slow.

I wish I wouldve taken pics before I ported, but oh well. I can now fit my thumb into the smaller of the 2 holes, when stock I could barely fit the tip of it in. I didnt really see much I could do with the larger hole, I just shaved a little off the sides, maybe a mm or 2.

Also a pic of my wastegate dump. You can see it completely isolates the exhaust from the turbine from the WG flow.

Hopefully with the combination of that porting, and this wastegate dump tube , I shouldnt have a problem with boost creep. This housing is being attached to a polished T04-B compressor housing, v-trim wheel. Ill have pics of the whole turbo assembled tomorrow.

Also thought Id throw in a pic of my ceramic coated IMs that I just got in today

Let me know what you think about everything, espicially the WG porting. I dont want to have to tear my turbo apart and do it again.

*Sometimes imagestation linked pics do not show up for everyone the 1st try. Either try re-loading the page, or right click on the picture, and select "show picture" One of those will usually work*

^ So how does this look compared to other people's wastegate jobs? Look big enough, or is there room to go more?

Ceramic coating is the BOMB. It looks just as bling tastic as my water pump housing. Good Job take some good shots when it goes on the car.

Thanks, If you remember from your other post I also have a set of manifolds that were painted about the same color as yours (the metallic black). I have these now also, I have to decide which ones I like more Ill probably stick with these ceramic ones though.

Vosko bought it from someone in Japan, then sold it to another forum member, and then I bought it from them. I have not used it yet, hope it works well!

Well what I did to check to see if I ported enough was close the wg flap to see how much more I could port. You can also close the wg flapper and shine a light through the manifold to see if you have ported too far. If you see light too much has been ported. If possible try and back cut or port it deep. I didnt have a long bit so it still creeped very little above 9 on a cold night in a 5th gear pull with a K&N filter.

If you want I can post some pix of my porting before and after later tonight when I get home.

Your smaller port looks slightly larger than what I did. It doest look like you were able to port all the way down though? Is it just the pics, or didnt you have a long enough bit? I didnt want to bring the holes too close together, I was afraid Id weaken the metal if I made it too thin and it may crack.

Look at my first post in this thread. I may end up pulling it again and porting with a long carbide burr. What I used were aluminum oxide burrs from home depot because that was all that was available to me at that time. It took a lot longer than I wanted and my hands were sore haha.

Oic. You said that you only creeped slightly past 9psi and that was at WOT in 5th. Thats pretty darn good. Did you have alot of boost creep problems before the porting?

It isolates the wastegate gas from the rest of the exaust, hopefully helping wastegate flow and preventing boost creep.
