is s5 tranny stronger than s4?

ok so im about to blow my 3rd tranny...damnit..
1st 2 were s4 5spd with about 110 mi on each one. blew both within 15k miles. ran the 1st with no fluid for a long time tho..had no bushing in the tailshaft and it kept leaking out.

3rd one is the one in there now..out of a 83 gslse 5spd. 130k miles on it..but its starting to make noise...im gonna put lighter oil in it see if it helps (its noisy when cold)

so wtf do i do..i cant afford too many more trannies... all my $$ went into my motor..which is why i keep killing the damn things..lol

so would a s5 tranny fix my problems? or did i just get 3 lemons? or am i gonna hev to go t2 with a custom dshaft?

this sucks.

Pat

ps on both s4 trannies the same gear blew out... the main drive gear on the motor side..think maybe i could jsut get a hardened one?

1st off, there is no such thing as an '83 GSL-SE. They were made in 84-85. 1st gen trannys were not as strong as 2nd gen trannys anyway. S5 N/A tranny is slightly stronger than the S4, due to increased bracing on the casings. A T2 tranny will bolt up to the N/A engine, but you will need a T2 flywheel and starter, as well as a custom driveshaft (Its said that you can use an auto N/A driveshaft, but I have yet to hear anyone being 100% sure about that)

The first two only had 110 miles or 110k miles? If the latter, then all three were pretty used up. My suggestion? Quit putting in used trannies and have one rebuilt. If you're fairly abusive, you might want to go with a TII tranny.
