S5 TII swap questions

So, I went out to grab some Subway last Thursday and found this sitting in my driveway.

The engine is out of a '91 S5 TII and it's j-spec. The original un-cut harness and ECU (N374) were included, as well as the coil packs, driveshaft, OEM downpipe, AFM, boost sensor (n370?), and TII fuel pump. The gentleman that sold it to me was kind enough to tape off almost every opening with some pretty strong tape.

Alright, lets get down to business:

I've decided to remove the A/C and emissions garbage, but I'll be keeping my TB stock since I live in New York. Secondly, I'll be running a 3" exhaust from downpipe to muffler, walbro 255 fuel pump, and larger secondary injectors (720cc seem to be the favorite). Third, I've made the decision to run a Haltech E8 since it seems that it's the easiest way to pull this swap off correctly, not to mention provides an excellent platform for my old S4. I do plan further modifications further down the road, as well as an engine rebuild. This is just to get my foot in the door and get used to my S4.

So, here's what I've been pondering for the last week or so:

With the Haltech E8, would I have to wire up a custom harness myself with supplies from Haltech or could that "Plug 'N' Play Patch Loom" kit work with the j-spec harness? I won't be disappointed either way. Also, with either option, would my factory lighting/heat/wiper controls still function properly? Now I'm not a complete dunce when it comes to electrical projects (I had been studying Electrical Engineering before I switched to automotive), so would I be expecting this to be a good weekend project or the best part of the spring to get the harness finished?

On an unrelated note, if there's anyone in the WNY area that wouldn't mind a good chuckle, I could use a hand in the near future with this motor.

Umm, why don't you compression test it before you get all giddy?

+1. Who did you order this from?

Do they guarantee compression, or at least a running engine?

I was wondering who you ordered this from as well. I spent a few months searching for a motor without finding one i was completely comfortable purchasing, i finally settled for a local importer, i figured if nothing else, at least its local and i can throw it in their face if something is wrong. Everything seems to be working out, it should be running early next week. I went with the USDM N370 ECU, and a basic oem swap to "get my foot in the door" as well. I'm interested to see how this plays out for you

I bought it from Jhot Imports, an eBay Motors dealer who does mostly JDM stuff. He does guarantee startup on the motor, as well as a 1-month warranty. He's a good seller. He was also kind enough to tape off all the coolant, vacuum, fuel, and oil lines that were left open, as well as the turbo and output for the transmission. He did have a complete 13b-REW swap the last time I checked. It came with the driveshaft, fuel pump, ecu, harness, intercooler, and a few other things. I will say this about him:

I will be checking the compression later today. I've just been busy with classes and work. Should I drop in a little 10-30W or ATF for the seals? I've got both sitting around, but not totally sure which is best for right now.

I did a series swap with the haltech e8. Im still using the s4 harness, you gotta buy the haltech boost sensor, temp sensor, tps. you just gotta wire em in. THe tps is kind of a bitch, you gotta make your own mounting bracket for it. i can take pics if you want.

i bought my motor off of ebay as well. I just took it straight from the crate and put it right into my car. I didnt even compression test it and it runs great. Has about 5k miles on it just from me and still runs fine. with the series swap you might wanna consider upping your fuel system. but other than that good job on going stand alone and doing it right. I would hate to see you do it and the motor go pop. THe engine you have their looks to be in pretty damn good condition and shipped very well, unlike mine was lol. The day i got mine and was putting it in i thought to myself. "i hope this company didnt **** me over", but the rotary gods were pleased with me that day

throw some atf to loosen the seals, and turn it over a couple times. I would do so about once every 2 weeks when my motor was sitting, probably saved me a heap of trouble

you could swap the one chassis plug to ecu for the S5 one (v6 mx3,92-95mx6 and probegt's have same ecu plugs) toss a knightsport chip in the ecu, i did a how to write up on it ......mine runs flawlessly on all S5 electronics in S4 chassis

it would take you 2-3 hours tops, really its an hour or less of actual work

Well, I'm going to be running a Walbro 255 and 720cc secondaries. I'm not sure if i should run larger ones because I still want to make the most out of my stock turbo for now. I'm also going to be running new oil cooler lines and probably drop a different radiator in since the system doesn't have a radiator cap. Also, I hyperlinked my swap into my sig if anyone is interested.

I've heard mixed things about using the N374 ecu, specifically some that lead to a blown motor down the road. I did consider trying to keep it OEM, but having the utility of a Haltech E8, despite its price, is too much for me to not want. I might as well have a good foundation while the engine's out of the car, right?

n374 wont fire the rear rotor in north american car, unless you put a kinightsport or equivelant chip in it,KS chip also has a built in fbcd
i made 313whp 289ft-lbs with KS chip and AFC neo with a jdm hybrid turbo on my set up and its still running perfect, atleast you could get some runtime on the motor before your warranty is up, haltech you have to start from scratch
