almost plug and play, not quite. i believe you need to extend the TPS wires, not sure what else.

it only needs 2(or 3) wires to be repluged to make it work. My turbo vert has the n/a harness.

Here is what i gathered
Extend TPS wires or do not use any factory mounting hardware for the harness and it might stretch to fit
Cut off VDI plug & attach ECU wire to knock sensor (Pin 2M)
Plug 6PI plug into turbo duty solenoid (Pin 3R) if you still have it in your car which i do not so this step can be skipped if all the emissions and "unecessary things" are removed

If someone could post a pic of the ECU pinout that would be awesome

haha yep RotaryRocket is the man on this subject...it would be cool to get images of the pinouts on this thread along with the s4 info and have it stickied for future questions

I know this is an old thread but I'm about to this today and I was wondering which color is the wire to the ECU that you're supposed to solder the knock sensor into?

My understanding is if you abandon the knock sensor and emissions you dont have to do anything................... (s5)...

S5 wiring diagram page Z-30. Wire color is B/W on the positive side and Y/B on the ground (ECU) side for the VDI plug. Connect the Y/B to the knock sensor.

You can keep it pretty easily on an S5 swap, but it's a hassle on S4s.

From my experience with boosted cars, i would guess by the time the knock sensor alerted the ecu it would be a little late.... I think i am just going to forego the knocksensor.

Have you fun an S5 without using the knock sensor before?

In theory, if the car is in good tune, the knock sensor should never need to be used. But it's a nice back up if you get some bad gas or something, and start pinging under boost. It won't prevent the initial knock, but it can reduce it overall until you get your foot out of the throttle.

If I were you, I'd just connect the wire. It'll seriously take you about 2 minutes with the NA harness. I would have wired mine up on my S4, but it's nowhere near as simple as on an S5. I'd have to run all new wires and make a little harness for the knock box. S5s have it integrated into the ECU, which simplifies it.

Yes, I have run a Modified 1991 coupe with a 4 port turbo setup (on 6 port plates ported to 4.. I know that sounds confusing) without a knock sensor, never had any issues.. I have run all my S4 turbos without except for the 1987 that was stock when i bought it..

just to add. I had my knock sensor on my front rotor (s5 vert with n/a harness) took all the precautions and guess which rotor blew?

another thing. anyone know if s5's have a knock control box? I know s4's do. so that could have been the key factor.

other than that it's just those two things that need to be spliced or spaded into the n/a wiring.

sorry to bring up a somewhat old thread but wondering if there were any diagrams you could show for the info on this (original topic of NA harness for Turbo engine...using turbo ECU aswell i presume???)

the knock sensor is 2m on the ECU side. the vdi connector is white and the wires are yellow/black and black/white YB goes to the ECU. on the turbo model this wire is just white.

so to connect your knock sensor run a wire to the yellow/black wire.

6pi plug is brown and that goes to your duty solenoid. the wire colors are the same between turbo and n/a. [(LW)^(BW)v] <--ascii plug the v and ^ are the notches.

S5 ECUs have the knock control function built into them, which is why keeping the knock sensor is so easy on S5 swaps. S4s are the only ones with the separate knock box.

Ok I have a question and I know it has been covered but ppl are saying two different things I have a 88 keg that I am making a 6 port turbo to put in an 86. I am using a s4 turbo with twin scroll removed. All emissions are removed. Now if I have read correctly because all emissions and twin scroll as well as the knock control all I have to change on a s4 turbo harness is the alternator wiring because on the TII's it is on the front harness unlike the na 86 im building it in is this correct?

iirc all s4's have the alternator wiring on the main harness and the s5's have the alternator wiring on the front harness.
