S5 TII Motor Into S4 NA ?????

Hello,

First of all I would like to say that I have searched and was unable to find what I am looking for. I have also checked out Rotary Resurrection's Tech section, without success.

I am swapping a S5 TII engine into a S4 NA. I purchased a S4 TII donor car which came with a second motor, the S5. I figured the S5 would have less mileage and aslo be a little bit more powerful.

I used the S4 wiring harness and ECU for wiring purposes, but I have run into a couple of areas that I need help in.

1. There are three holes in the oil pan. The farthest back is the oil drain plug and the one in the middle is the oil level sending unit, but I have no idea what the 3rd hole in the oil pan is for. Please help me identify this if you can.

2. I have installed (but not connected in the engine bay yet) the S4 wiring harness and the S4 knock box, but the S5 engine has knock sensors in the engine (above the plugs). What should I do?

Thanx

Michael

My oil pans only have 2 holes. S4 knock sensor is on the intermedate housing , S5 is on the rotor housing. The S5 knock controll is in the ecu. The S4 use's the external knock box. I dont think it matters where you install it, just as long as it is hooked into the knock box.
Are you going to change front cover's, or disable the mop and run premix? You will need to convert your harness to run the S5 injectors. The twin scroll is different.

There are a few issues here you need to know. You need the S5 engine harness if you are using S5 sensors and such. The OMP is controlled by the ECU and without it hooked up , will go into limp mode. Another way is just use the S5 short block (S4front cover) and all S4 sensors and S4 ECU. This will probably the easiest and least headache way. The S4 CAS comes from the drivers side and S5 through the engine harness. So, there will be some splicing since you cannot use an S4 harness into a S5 ECU. It's easiest doing an S5 to S5 and S4 to S4.
Anway, I hope that makes sense . I'm at work so I'm typing what I've encountered.
What I am trying to sort out is a local shop did a half *** job on a S4 NA to S5 TII swap and it is a MESS! Also, if you do not know to solder, use crimps !

Oh, and regarding the CAS. The S4 CAS has 4 (R/L/G/W) go into each connector at the ECU and the S5 has 3 into the ECU. The S5 (R/G) splices together and into one connector so you have 3 going to the ECU. It may work since I haven't tested anything yet but I am getting spark at the leading. "It may".
I had to re-crimp the bad solder on almost half the wiring harness so.....make sure you have good connections on all the wiring.

There are many wires on the "1" ECU plug that will not splice into the S5.

Additional Information

I forgot to mention that I do have the S4 front cover and water pump housinig on as well. I have blocked off the OMP and plan on running premix.

My TPS has a single button on it. Is it S4 or S5?

I should run the S4 sensors. I have a question about the water temp (beside the oil pressure guage) on the S4. Is it a blade type or round type?

Also I will be installing new Greddy 550 primaries and 720 secondaries. I will also be purchasing the new injector clips, as well as the resisitors needed to do so.

Thanx

Michael

No. Even if you have the S4 front cover, the S5 ECU will go into limp mode sine the OMP connector is not connected.

That's an S4. Why does an S5 motor have an S4 TPS?

Easiest is use just the S4 short block and transfer all S4 to the S5 block .
Use the S4 ECU and harness if you can find one. The water temp connector for S5 is a blade connector. S4 are bullet type.

More information....

I messed up again.

I do have a S4 ECU. Bascially everything is S4 except the short block, UIM, and LIM.

Does anyone know what the 3rd hole in the oil pan is?

Thanx

The only holes are for the plate that holds the sensor wires and for the motor mount . I don't recall any other holes unless he tapped it for a oil temp. gauge.

Cold start system

I have been told that it is for the cold start system sensor.

I will just find the sensor/bolt and plug it up.

Thanx

Michael
