S5 swap, what do I need

I own a S4 GLX which recently broke the rotorhousing watergroove thingie, you know the usual S4 problem

So the other day I bought an entire S5 partscar with 70K miles on the motor.
My question is: I want to drop in this new motor, can I use the S4 wireing harness?
Or do I need to use the S5 ECU/Motor wireing harness?
Or do I need to swap the entire wireing in the car?

Thanks
Kim Nielsen

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that Kim. That really sucks.

Unfortunately I personally don't know much about the swap. I have heard that the s5 ecu will not work in an s4. There are a bunch of other things involved. But I thought this would help. There is another post I was reading that was very informative about this, but I can't find it. This should do for now. I'll see if I can locate the other one soon.

88Se the link you provided doesnt work, im guessing its because of the server swap.

Kevin your link is great but it doesnt say anything about swapping the entire ECU wireing harness or you will have to install the entire harness from the S5 car.

I was just wondering if you only need to swap ecu harness, which I would guess is fairly easy

Thanks
Kim

I don't believe you read or understood it fully, then.

IT talks about the "smart parts", which are what your ecu looks at to operate the engine. Things like ecu, wiring, injectors, airflow meter, TPS, etc. IF you read, it says the easiest way to do the swap (this is what I intended the page to display, the easiest way, not the harder ways that others may do) is to transfer all these parts to the new engine.

You do have the more difficult/hacked options:

1) use the original ecu with the new engine harness, and cut and splice wires into new plugs to fit the original ecu

2) use the new ecu with the new harness, cut and splice wires into plugs for the original dash harness

3) change every wire in the car

Have fun with the swap, and if you choose any of the above 3 options, have a LOT of fun.

Thanks, I guess I will have alot of fun.
I have done harness swaps before when I was into BMW´s. Its not really that hard(atleast in a bimmer) just rip all interior out then all wireing and put the new **** in, shouldnt take more than a few days, but its still a real bitch to try to keep all the wires organized.
