S5 parts swap over to S4

Hey all just picked up a s5 gxl parts car. i want to swap over the 5 lug, LSD, Tranny and Driveshaft. My s4 SE has got over 250,000 and u joints are terribly bad so this will make it drive shift much smoother. Do you guys know of any good links or maybe a how to? and is it straight forwards any help is appreciated.

Everything will bolt right up, assuming you use the s5 trans crossmember, and your car that you want to convert is a n/a manual car.

s5 lsd is viscous which is likely to be worn out.

yes, yes, (in the 2nd gen sticky links to factory FSM's) and yes.

Comment, the only S5's with LSD are TII's and the uba rare '89 GTU-s. S4 GXL's have LSD. Unless your S4 3rd member and Tranny are having problems, you gain nothing by swapping them.

Correct.

Yep, the clutch hydraulics are exactly the same. Use the flywheel from your S4 engine - it has balancing weight in it.

According to Mazdatrix, all 83-92 clutches are interchangeable for NA cars.

Why are you swapping your transmission? Seems all you need off the parts car is a Driveshaft.

good looking.

Its because my original s4 tranny has about 270,000 miles almost plus i got the complete parts car for 200 all i needed was a driveshaft so why not put a s5 tranny that has feedback and shifts like butter.

I've seen transmissions with twice that mileage and more... So long as it's still shifting fine, I wouldn't put the effort into pulling the trans. Just change the shifter bushings.
