Question S5 N/A -> S4 TII Conversion...

Ok, YES I have searched, and did not come up with anything... other than S4 N/A -> S5 TII swap..

Ive about given up with searching for a good condition S5 TII, and since I will be purchasing a very good condition S5 N/A... why not just make a Turbo GTU I also like the fact that the GTU doesn't have any power options... so it saves a bit of weight.

This car currently has a S4 N/A shortblock, with all the S5 intake and accessories. If the S4 N/A engine works... why wouldn't a S4 TurboII motor work? The only differnce between the N/A engines as far as I have been told is the redline is reduced to 7K...

I figured a S4 TurboII motor, since Im sure finding a low-mileage S5 turbo II motor would be out of the question.

Or can I do a S4 turboII shortblock, with all the S5 turboII **** on there... like the combo that is on the car now, with the mixed up N/A engines...

Is this going to be worth wile (not the actual conversion, but putting a S4 engine in there)

I would really like to do the conversion, and I know its not as cost effective as buying a S5 Turbo II... but like Ive said, ive about given up on that.

**EDIT**

Incase I didnt specify, the car is a 89 GTU

<sigh...>

Why, oh why, can people not stick to one simple rule when doing engine swaps retaining stock EFI:

STAY WITHIN SERIES!!!

Yup, you really need to stay within the series like Kevin said. To do otherwise will cost you more and will also be LOTS more work for you to do.

Yeah, it's just this simple.

IF you want to use a stock ecu and wiring, you NEED to stay within series with your swap.

IF you HAVE to go outside your series, you have more work to do trying to retain the stock EFI stuff from your series onto the later block, or hacking up wiring. The best option if you have to go outside your series with any swap is an aftermarket ecu which doesnt care what it operates and offers unlimited adjustability.

Ok..

sorry guys... I tried searching, but ony the opposite of my "plan"

Ill try harder to search next time...

The only reason I chose S4 was for the fact of finding a S5 longblock 13BT motor is going to be hard as hell.

I would really like to use a-spec, vs j-spec ****, where its a 50/50 if itll last. (just from seeing other's experiences with j-spec engines vs a-spec...)
