^^he could be running up to 12 pounds on the stock turbo with that set up which could easily warrant a front mount. the one hes describing isn't gigantic or anything so i see np problem with it.

anyways, it will fit but youll probably have to cut atleast a few things. best thing to do is take off the front bumper and put it where you want it and see whats in the way. since its pretty wide i doubt it will all fit behind the s5 middle opening, that would be the biggest dillemma.

There was a thread posted yesterday about a budget FMIC install with an intercooler similiar in size to the one you have.

BS. It will run all day with very high intake temps that require very rich power-sapping mixtures to prevent detonation, and will heatsoak like a bastard every time you slow down or stop, just like every TMIC.

dont give advice like that, unless your willing to pay for the blown engines.

well ive been running 12 psi with my top mount intercooler for the past year no detanation no turbo lag and it beats a lot of suburus and a lot of other cars in the process ive got a full greddy fmic and greddy pipeing but ive been told it's pointless puting it on with the standard turbo because of the turbo spoul up it will be to lagy so i thought i would ask the experts on this forum if you could clear this up for me once and for all i would be very very greatfull thanks a lot fellers andy

watch it if you go FMIC though, make sure you have an underbelly tray to keep air up so forces air up into the radiator. the tilting-back of our stock radiators requires an underbelly tray to keep air from just slipping around it and going underneath the car.

So you're running rich enough mixtures to prevent it. Cooler air would mean leaner mixtures could be safely run, giving you more power.

And you don't seem to get the whole heatsoak thing, probably because you don't have an intake temp gauge to show you how bad it is.

when i was on my stock IC running 13-14psi -which is, granted, too much boost for that crappy IC, in my blue FC (about 2 years ago), i datalogged a few drag strip passes and watched the intake temps go from about 90*f to about 160-170*f. that is totally unacceptable. the only way to keep the temps at an acceptable level was to put quite a bit of ice on the top of the TMIC and just close the hood and make the pass.

i can datalog now with a greddy vspec FMIC (and a much bigger turbo) and the intake temps go from about 90*f to about 100-105*f by the end of the 1/4mile pass.

Doesn't matter, you'll still have high intake temps at full boost and bad heatsoak.
