S5 engine in S4 Car

Will a '90 engine (NA) bolt straight into an '86 Car? My main worry is port actuation and other S5-related things.

Thanks,
victor

for starters, you'd have to swap the front cover if you want to keep the omp. As for aux port actuation, I don't know. However, I'll be figuring this out when I do the swap this month.

Rocky! How's it going?

Anyway. Yeah, I'm being breathed down my neck by certain family members who want their vehicles back, and i found a cheap S5 engine on thepartstrader.
Anyway give me a call sometime - or if you ever want some help or moral support, I'll help you work on stuff. Heh.

Also tell me how your swap goes.

You've got a hell of a lot of things to worry about with an S4-S5 swap.

Will it bolt in? sure.

What else do you need?

S5 Injectors, Intake manifold, Throttle body, Oil metering pump, CAS, ECU, passenger side wiring harness. Water pump is different, reuse the S4 housing or you need a new water pump as well as the housing. If you use the S5 housing, water fill becomes an issue, since the S5 puts the fill on the drivers side of the radiator.

let's see, I think those are the significant issues you'll have to deal with. There's some minor other things (BAC connector in the wrong spot, you'll need to splice in the BAC connector from an S5, and you'll need the vacuum tray from an S5..

Wait, you really need an S5 parts car.

I'll need all the help I can get. My swap won't be quite like yours as mine is going into an ITS car. That just means that I'll be asking Silk many questions in the near future!

Well, ok, I say that, but here's the ghetto way.

S5 engine, intake manifold.

S4 front cover (for the OMP), injectors, ECU, CAS, don't swap harness.

But that's going to leave you with no means to actuate the VDI, and smog would be an issue I think

Hah. Smog? Issue? Preposterous! Here in AL there are no emissions testing!

Anyway. I guess this rules out the s5 engine. I should just go to Kevn [Landers] then.
Although I seem to recall him telling me that it wouldn't be too entirely hard. Anyway.

Well, it's not that hard, if you have the parts

Then it's a simple swap. But if you don't have the parts.....

I'm starting with an S5 long block, engine harness, and ecu. We'll figure the rest out! Also, don't be surprised to see emissions testing in the next few years! I can't confirm that, but I've been hearing rumors. I'm scared!

Yeah, I wouldn't be too surprised. I read the paper today and Michigan is trying to get the Hyundai plant, saying that Alabama doesn't enforce the EPA rules as strictly as it should.

On the other hand, there have got to be a hundred million hoopties that wouldn't pass emissions, and I doubt they'd let half the cars in the state fail. Heh.

And yeah if I don't have the parts (and I don't) then it'd be tough.

Theres a guy in Auburn named Justin that is selling a S4 engine. His car ran a 15.1 with a stuck 6 port actuator, so I'd imagine its in pretty good shape.
