s5 emission removal, big problems :(
s5 emission removal, big problems :(
Ok so i did the emissions (rats nest) removal on my 91 turbo. i ran the fpr and injector bleed lines to their stock locations on the rear of the uim. then i ran my boost gauge, pressure sensor, bov, and ebc from the angled nipple on the passenger side of the uim.
all my connectors are plugged in. every nipples is either capped, or in use.
when i start the car, the rpms go right up to about 5000 and never go down at all.
what have i done wrong? anyone ever experience this? whats the fix?

did you replace the gasket on the UIM? did you use any kind of sealant on it if not? my guess is a vac leak. check you TB to make sure that you removed all the stuff that you wanted off an nothing is holding the throttle a lil. but thats where i would start.. deff check the UIM for vac leack though.
Hmm..seems like something internally is stuck.
A couple of questions..
Does the idle pulsate? Or is it ROCK SOLID?
If it pulsates, even by 100 rpm, I would say a vacuum leak. I'm not positive as to why it would be at 5000+rpm...but, still.
If it does NOT pulsate, I would think you got something stuck in your throttle body, while it was removed. Something is most likely holding it open. With the car off, removed the throttle body inlet, and hold the throttle plates open. Spray some carb cleaner inside it, and wipe it down real good. Compressed air works really good for this part, as you can blow out any debris.

yay figured it out. i left a shoprag in the ic elbow that was holding the plates open. hah.
new problem... idle bounces! 1k to 1.5k
im assuming this is a tps problem? ill set it tommorrow and try...?
also i was POURING smoke, until i removed the vacuum cap on the oil fill neck, then the smoking stopped. is that because there was no 'relief' for the pressure? at least im not smoking now
the idle is bugging me though, i have the BAC (yes i kept it) screw all the way in, and its still 1k to 1.5k... i used new gaskets and permatex on everything except the acv blockoff plate i used 'right stuff' and the old gasket, so im ruling out vac leaks. will setting the tps (if thats the problem) drop the idle to where it should be?
