Exclamation S4T2 vs. REW transmissions

Does anyone know if the output shaft on the REW transmission is the same as the one on the S4 T2 transmission, and if the overall lenght of the trannys is the same or not.

go to the 3rd gen section and click on the tech manual sticky thread. download the service highlights document and go to the transmission section, it explains the changes made and may answer a lot of your questions. You do know that the REW tranny is set up for a completely different clutch system right? From your sig I see you have an n/a engine. The S4 T2 gearbox has shorter gearing than the FD and may be better optimized for your driving. I have lots of experience driving the s4 n/a, s5 n/a, s4 T2, and FD transmissions.

Thanks i'll look into it. I ask because I a putting a S4T2 tranny into my FB and I found a drive shaft that was for an REW in a FB. So if they are the same case legnth and output shaft then it will work.

The FD driveshaft length listed in the 3rd gen FSM is 33.98 inches, while TII driveshafts are 38.03 in. That's a pretty big difference in length.

Hyper, post the links here if you find them. I'm putting a TII tranny in my FB as well. All info is appreciated.

Its not the legnth of the shaft that matters its the transmission length that matters. And the size and spline of the output shafts. Shaft length is chassis dependant.

Uh huh, and if you plan on leaving the engine & diff in the same locations they are now, a TII transmission with an extra short FD driveshaft will leave you with a gap in the middle.

On TII trans swapped FBs, what driveshaft gets used? Compare that length to the numbers I gave you, and you'll know if you're going to come up short.

the FD trans is a couple inches longer than the FC. the pull type clutch makes the bellhousing and input shaft longer.
