i wouldn't see them not having it. the manufacturing costs and separate engineering work wouldn't be worth it to the company to have two different designs/manufacturing lines.

then by that logic, seeing as how america was the only country to have mouse belts, wouldnt that mean that they serve a double purpose?

seeing as how america is like 70% of the worldwide rx7 market, not really.

(If I'm wrong, correct me, but it seems to me that the vast majority made it to the states, and the rest of the world got little by comparison)

Yeah, they and everywhere else in the world did, even though it wasn't needed on the Canadian or other country cars. This was the same for the third brake light (another US only requirement).

See Canada and Europe together sales of the FC were only a 1/4 of what was sold in the US. The US was the biggest market in the world for the SA/FB and the FC. That is part of why the FC was designed specifically for the US market.

So if you are going to beef up a chassis for your biggest market, it is cheaper to beef up the chassis for the entire run. Really the only differences between the Canadian spec cars and the US spec cars were bolt on things, like the DRL or the bumper shocks (both of which were required in Canada and not found on US spec cars).

not all S5's have 4-piston, the GTU's came standard with 1-piston (like mine)

P.S. good thread.
I have had FCs since I bought my old Sport new back in 87 (except for a couple years around 97-00), so you have to know them just to work on them (I sure as hell wouldn't ever take a car into the dealer for service on any car I own- too many idiots working at car dealers).

But between SAs, FCs, and FDs or immediate family we have all owned (or still own) each at least a couple of almost each year of the RX-7.

And I have all the manuals as well as most of the brochures for the RX-7s.

I also have a buddy at Irvine (Mazda N.A.) that does work for Mazda and he gets me all kinds of tid bits.

I was talking to one of the other forum members(Ni5mo180SX) at his house in Orange County yesterday (yep I was down south for a long weekend), though and it came up that I really prefer the FC over any other RX-7 and I have sort of specialized in them.

But I do learn stuff here from time to time as well.

I could only dream of getting my vert/t2 down to around 2500 lbs. That would be sweet.
