S4 vs S5 turbo manifold

Wondering if the S5 turbo exhaust manifold is better than the S4? I have a S5 turbo I picked and can only seem to find S4 manifolds for sale used.

Well the S5 uses a divided manifold to make up for its lack of twinscroll as per the S4. It also has a squared flange instead of a squared with one corner off-set flange like the S4.

So if you already have the S5 turbo, you'll have to get the S5 manifold.

Kouki is better.
You'll need the oil drain pipe and connecting pipe to the front cover also.

Its a much better design. If you port the wastegates you can run solid boost settings with out creep or spike. I swapped in an s5 turbo and manifold on my s4 engine. It was by the best bang for the buck mod I ever did. I paid $150 shipped for mine. You can usually find them for under $200 as a set. Just be careful with junkyard turbos. Inspect them carefully before buying one. You may end up having to do a rebuild.

yeah but when inspecting only thing you could check for is shaft play...oils seals cant really be inspected unless taken to turbo specialists but i think most wrecked fcs turbo are in gc anyways....thanks for all your help

That's not quite right. The S5 turbo is still a twin-scroll design. The combined effects of the S5's divided manifold and electronic boost control meant that the twin-scroll control system wasn't required.

so the major difference lies in the spool characteristics?

what about performance.. like maximum boost? CFM's it can push? stuff like that...

say for example u bolted on the S5 turbo+manifold, tossed all emissions out the window, ported the **** outta the manifold and turbo, cranked the boost.. with supporting IC and fuel mods, what kinda power can an S4 put down using an S5 Turbo+manif?

if there really is that much diff in it, i might consider upgrading to an S5 combo as well

It's spools sooner and smoother.

It does not make more power - the compressor side is identical, so therefore, in theory, they can both potentially make the same power max.

The dual wastegate passages are a big plus against boost creep.

Turbos do not just "cuts out" - you have other problems.
Turbo should be spinning when idling - if it doesn't your turbo is seized.
How do you check the turbo if it's spinning when the engine is running???

like on the dyno sheet the power band just goes flat...and when driving hits max psi straight away and then thats it...seized turbo can it do damage to the engine?

well i didnt have a pod or airbox on it and i had a look in it.....then i tried putting my finger in it and spinning it
