s4 vs s5 power window switches

Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked before I tried searching but nothing really came up.

I need new power window switches for my s5, and I found a decent deal on a set of switches from an s4. I thought I remembered reading that they were different, but I can't find anything that says they are. On ebay whenever I look they all say it'll fit 86-91. I know they look a little different, but would s4 window switches fit in an s5?

Thanks in advance.

I believe they are the same. A friend of mine needed one so I gave him a spare.

yep the s4 switches work just fine. The s4 switches are more durable and somewhat rebuildable. Also I think the MPV vans switches fit in also.

Yeah, the passenger switch is plug and play, but the drivers has to be re-wired. But they do fit in the stock spots.

Nice. Are the MPV switches more durable? I may go searching for a set.

The s4 switches are more durable and they are also rebuildable. The contacts in the s4 switches are also rated for more current than the s5's.

What do I have to rewire? I just got the switches. For the driver's side switch it only rolls the drivers window up and the passengers down, the drivers side down and passengers side up don't seem to be working. The passengers side window switch isn't working at all. Is it likely I just got bad switches? The driver's side everything up to the plug I know should work since I've been running a switch with all the plastic off it and both windows go up and down (I have to use those little tab things, kills my thumbs but it works).

Once you get those nice switches in place, spend a couple of bux and a couple of hours and do the Relay Rewire job. The swithces will last forever and the windows will travel up and down much more smoothly and accurately. I did my 90 vert and the windows glide just like a new car....

Have you a wiring diagram for this?

No, but the instructions are very specific. There are two wires that go from the switch to the window motor. I followed them exactly and it worked fine. You need 2 relays per side, one for up and one for down. Do them one at a time to keep all the wires straight.

I mounted the relay securely to the metal panel under the armrests.
