S4 vs. S5 diff (TII)

im going to do a turbo conversion down the road for my 90' GXL. So i want to get the driveline out of the way first. I want to get an S5 diff, but it seems they are so hard to find. I like the S5 viscous diff in my N/A a lot. It has very ballanced handeling, unlike some of my friends clutch type diffs that have worn over time. I would also like to keep my s5 as much 's5ish' as possible.

but what is really 'better'? I do a lot of road racing and Autox. And i cant afford a aftermarket diff at this time.

i hear that the s4 diff with a clutch rebuild kit from mazdaspeed is pretty good.

or

should i keep looking for an s5 diff?

From what i hear, the s4 differential feels better for all out performance while the s5's viscous has better traction for subtle, spirited, and city driving. The s4 clutch styles DO wear out, having to be replaced..whereas the s5's all you gota do is change the fluid.

After much looking i found an S5 viscous diff..feels good to stay in the s5 family for some reason. Keep looking...but if you cant find anytihng and time nears that the swap must be done...then go s4..dont prolong anything to look.

Yes, but why would you want to do that? The TII trannies are stronger.

Actually the S4 clutch trannys are about 1000X better than the S5's. The S5 viscous couplers barely worked from the factory. Their operation relies on the temp of the fluid and the condition of the fluid. Mine actually works for like 20 minutes, then the fluid loosens up and I have a peg leg for the most part, and the viscous couplers are slow to react.

For all out fun, get the S4 diff, and have it shimmed with new MazdaComp plates. This would be pretty damn nice. And the route that I'm taking.

i have heard rumors that all TII diffs are clutch type regardless of series. any truth to this?

also, I have aquired a TII driveline from flywheel to the rear for my swap, any way to tell by looking waht series it came from?

and, i know that the shiters from the different series' are different ....are they interchangable between series'?

thanks a ton
