S4 vs S5 coolant temp sensor

is there a difference? My S4 TII has an S5 engine and therefore an S5 coolant temp sensor.
The gauge always shows just above the C, and once the gauge got up to halfway but that's because the coolant was super boiling.

So I'm thinking that maybe they're different? this make sense?

I think it's mostly the gauge. The S4's read 1/4 and the S5s read 1/2 when warmed up.

Mine did exactly the same, i did a turbo swap from a 88 n/a to a s5 tII and the gauge doesnt move hardly at all. I have a microtech and it reads 86 C. WTF?

Okay, if the sensor is the same, what could the problem me?

coolant gauge at halfway = 260F.

That doesn't sound right to me.

Word for word - exactly the same with the exception of my GReddy Water Temperture Guage aswell reading 84C.

So take both sensors and put them in the same pot of water and heat the water up. Then check the resistances b/t the two. They will be the same according to the series four and series five fsm's. Let us know what happened.

Hailers, this maybe the case - but the readings do In fact display differently according to the Instrument Cluster (s5 sensor In s4 FC). The sad thing Is I believe I wasted my money buying a new Coolant Sender Unit to disprove this. I'll know this weekend when Aaron and I fire up my car for the first time In 6 months.

if you all are talking about the coolant temp switch that is in the rear iron under the oil pedestal, they are totally different between s4 and s5.

i have an s4 in mine (the car is an s5) and the gauge would jump straight to half way when the car was bone cold, then get to H when warmed up. witht he s5 sensor in there it works as it should getting to halfway when the car is warmed up.

Weird, since according to the FSM's both the S4 and S5 temp gauge senders should have basically the same resistances at the same temps:

S4: 153.9ohms at 50degC, 49.3-57.7ohms at 80degC, 12.4ohms at 130degC.

S5: 154ohms at 50degC, 49.3-57.7ohms at 80degC, 13ohms at 130degC.

Has anyone taken Hailers' advice and tested them this way?
