I would imagine they fit but isn't the boot key barrel in the vert centre garnish?

Yes it is that's why I'm having trouble figuring it out if maybe I could keep the center part and just install the tail lights ? Would that work ?

no, the vert lights are shorter. the black portion that houses the key barrel on the vert is part of the tail lights on a coupe. you could block off the lock hole on the chassis and just use your interior popper I suppose? but you will need coupe lights and garnish.

You would lose the keyhole, you would need a complete s5 setup and you will have to trim a decent amount of metal. I know because i did it. It is easy to install a back up trunk release should the cockpit release fail.

If you put s5 vert lights you just need the lights not the center section.

Yes, it can be done. As Rob said, you do need to do some trimming as with any S4 to S5 tail conversion. You do lose the key hole but that wasn't a deterrent for me - that's a positive change in my eyes. I think it actually cleans up the look quite a bit.

And that will be fine until something jams up the remote trunk release. Good luck getting the trunk open then unless you're Plastic Man.

It can be done, but it's a very bad idea in the long term.

its more way more trimming then when you go s4-s5, and its really easy to hook up a emergency trunk release should your interior one fail, no need to be plastic man

S5 Vert tails are a direct swap for S4 Vert tails with no modifications needed. Plug n play. So I'm not sure why you'd want to go coup to Vert, except for the simple reason of the challenge. S5 Vert tails are pretty much just as available as S5 Coups.

S5 convertible tail lights, for some reason, draw a premium. I've searched a few times and just gave up. I got a nice set of S4 convertible tail lights instead, and I'm much happier now.

most people that ask this question already have someone with cheap s5 coupe lights or have given up looking for s5 vert lights. people used to get $300+ for s5 vert lights

its really not that much work, a few minutes with snips and a cable/choke release hooks up to the mechanism and can be accessed through the drain hole in the well to pop the trunk open should the inner cable fail

I also like the look of more tailight less plastic

Related, I've always wondered about adding a power lock solenoid so the trunk could be popped via aftermarket alarm function. That additional function would give you an out in case the in cabin lever broke.

I wonder if anyone has done mod in a way that proved long term durable.

i dont know how those aftermarket soleods work but I guess its no different then the remote door releases for when people shave their handles

the stock cable pulls to one side, which actually pulls the mechanism down, so if you hook up a cable to the mechanism and drop it down into the well where the spare would be on a coupe there is a drain plug there, you could easily reach up there and grab the release. Heck you could probably use a piece of string or mono line. with the plastics back in place this is not visible

Short-term, yes; long-term, no. How long 'til you consider it long-term? I'll let you know when I get there.

I believe that just about anything can be made durable so long as the design has been carefully considered. Ensure that your wiring is fit, the connection to the release is secured and at the appropriate angle to operate the release, the release has been maintained, the actuator is properly secured, and don't cheap-out and buy a POS actuator.
