S4 Turbo 2 vs S5 Turbo 2 Transmission

Hi guys,

Does anyone know the physical difference between the S4 Turbo2 Transmission and the S5 Turbo2 Transmission. When buying one how can you identify the transmission. I know 5th gear is different internally, anything else. I'm posting because I couldn't find anything from searching.

The mounts are different between the 2. One mounts on a flat plane and the other mounts in the shape of a y.

I believe there are slight differences in some gear ratios, but negligible. Basically look at your transmission mount and buy a trans with the same mount configuration. Or just buy either as long as they have the transmission mount.

I forget which is which as I have both but I just have both transmission mounts so I don’t care.

S5 Service highlights manual

The attached '89 Service highlights manual outlines all the differences between the S4 & S5 transmissions. Downloaded this as part of multi-volume set years ago, there's probably a link to it somewhere on this site.

I haven't seen this one before. I've got an s4/s5 hybrid. Happen to have a link to that volume you mentioned?
