S4 tranny into S5 (n/a)

alright, last week my transmission got stuck in reverse on my S5 GXL for the second time and i had to tow the car home. i was trying to look for a S5 tranny to buy, but i couldn't find one and i needed the car running quick so i bought a S4 tranny from the j-yard. when we were doing the swap, we noticed that the tranny mounts were a little off and i heard that all you have to do is change the mounts, but it wasn't possible because it wouldn't bolt on. so we used the S4 along with the S4 tranny mount, but we had to cut part of the mount so that it bolts up with the chasis. when everything was on the car i turned it on while it was still on jackstands and everytime i shifted, the car would shake/rattle. when i drover the car it felt fine at first, but then it would shake when i'm taking off in 1st and in reverse. do you guys know why it's doing this? what's the correct way to put a S4 tranny into a S5 FC? when i had my old tranny, the car wouldn't shake at all. thanks.

yeah.... I agree with ted... all the drive train stuff is like super balanced, so if you just ghetto rig it it'll come out of balance and shake.

Possibilities:
Insecure or broken tranny mount.
Some lube or debris got in the clutch.
Drive shaft / U-joint problem.
Insecure or broken diff mount.

Can you get the s4 crossmember? I had to use a s4 trans in my s5 and it had the crossmember attached and I had the same problem when I used the s5 crossmember. I figured wth since I am here I tried the s4 crossmember and everything bolted right up.

well the "ghetto" job i did was i ovaled the holes on the crossmember so that the bolts line up with the chasis. the shaking only happens when i'm taking off from a stop in first gear/reverse, after that, it's gone. by shaking, i mean the drivetrain is shuddering. oh yeah, a day before my old tranny kicked the bucket, i had replaced the clutch and flywheel (racing beat alum.) but the tranny messing up wasn't related to me replacing the clutch/flywheel since the tranny had gotten stuck in the exact same way one other time. also, it doesn't shudder every single time, sometimes the take off is good (normal), thanks

My copper/ceramic 6-puck will shudder the drive line at just above a very slow start up.

It's common for a performance clutch to get fussy about medium slow starts.

I either start out very slow, or get more agressive with a quicker start.
