s4 t2 idle problems.....

well, i was installing the turbo, bov, and intake on my 87 t2. While removing the acv(air control valve), I think I accidently hit that long metal piece(whatever its called) that starts from the throttle body near the tps adjustment screw and connects at the other end around the oil metering pump. well, i put everything back together, and it idles at 1300rpm. I was confused at first, and started tinkering and pushed down on that metal piece which pushes down on the throttle. it drops down to 750rpm. but as soon as i gas it, it comes down but back to 1300rpm. I then assume its stuck throttle plates, but it was 200am so i gotta go to sleep. I start looking at the long metal piece, and notice it is loose. is it supposed to be stiff? The part of the throttle that the long metal piece connects to doesnt come back all the way down when i rev it. i can push it all the way down with my hand though. is that supposed to be ok. I fell dumb not knowin what this long metal piece is and cant find it in the manual. but then i realize my s5s dont have that part on the throttle. well, the engine is original 150k and probably has left all those carbon deposits by now, so i am planning to clean the throttle body when i get home, but i was wondering about that long metal piece, and if you guys have any suggestions. Thanks.

yeah, it sounds like a TB issue.

I would take it off and preform the TB mod to simplify it.
http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/TBM/tbm.html

and you can oil it and look around inside it while you're doing it to try to see what the problem is.

just an idea.

you also might just have a vacuum leak somewhere, and you playing with stuff it wiggling where it is and closing it, or adding more oil and lowering it somehow...
