Arrow s4 s5 tranny's whats different?

Ok heres the situation. I have a 86 with a 91 motor and tranny, the trannys gone and since i have no time to work on it im havin a local mechanic swap it an 88 tranny i picked up.

SO he calls me and tells me he is havin a problem gettign the new tranny in and he can tell that this tranny belong in the car but he needs to get the right mounts. So he goes aghead and gets some mounts and now hes telling me i need some type of bracket.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on here. Me and a few friends did the auto/5spd swap 3 years back but all i remember is that the mounts werent exactly the same. I just need to know what to get so this guy can finish and i can drive my car again asap.

I got a couple of N/A transmission and I noticed the same thing. One type of tranny takes a Y shaped mount, the other take a T shape mount. It mounts the transmission to the crossmember. The bracket your mechanic says you need is probably the crossmember. I believe the crossmembers are different, one for each type of mount, if I remember correctly.

Yes, the transmission crossmember is different between the S4 and S5 trannys.
The S5 is spaced closer together, because the rubber mounts on the tranny are mounted differently.

I got mine new from Mazda for $70 CAN.
