i am not sure but you just might need to use S5 mount with S4 tranny and it will work

I have swaped a S4 tranny into my S5 with no problem. Use the same mount the tranny came with.

Saw this thread and figured I'd also ask something along the lines of tranny and drivetrain parts. For TII's, could a S4 clutch be installed into an S5 tranny? The ACT clutch I got sitting at home waiting for install is out of an S4 tranny I beleive and will be going into my S5 tranny.

the clutch plates are different sizes on both NA and turbo to my knowledge, and I have also heard of many s5 tranny's going onto S4 cars, so i imagine it could be done either way. lates matt22

as long as its TII clutch to TII tranny and NA to NA it does not matter what series, atleast thats how it always worked for us....

i have an 88 N/A GXL and i put a 91 tranny in with NO PROBLEMS. i just bolted it right up, no fabrication need. And it took me a whole 2 1/2 hrs to do....easy swap and from what i heard the s5 trannies are better, that's why i did the swap
