Hatch and shocks swap right over, but on an s5 the light isn't on the shock (at least the one I swapped. I'd use your old shocks and the new hatch for best results. Defroster hookups are the same as well.

K, Im raising it....

Maybe if it had no wiper. But both series came with or without so I don't see how glass made in 1987 weighs 10lbs less then glass made in 1989.

the glass might be the same, but from what I remember from Icemark's posts the wieght savings is in the frame supports not the glass. If I am missquoting Icemark, my mistake.

s4 and s5 are the same besides when you open a hatch with s5 struts it usually opens by itself instead of trying to open it after being popped open. as far as the light on a s4 the light is on the strut and on s5 on the inside of the car on the driver side behind the speaker is where the s5 light goes. cool stuff i prefer to have the s5 stuff myself.

Both S4 and S5 struts should raise the hatch automatically. That is assuming they work correctly.

all the s4 struts that i have seen on cars usually dont open by themselves. somtiems when they are warmed up from the heat of being outside but if you were to take a s5 and an s4 for instance i have an 89 s5 GTU and my friend has an 87 s4 GXL and we opend both up. hos wont open unless you pull the hatch up. mine pops right open. serious **** go with s5 i garantee you will be more happier with the s5 ones
