S4 N/A Differential

Can you weld the 4.1 limited slip (clutch type) in the naturally aspirated '86-'88 cars?
Mine is acting like it's an open differential at the moment, or I believe it is. Both tires spin forward when it's on jacks but only one wants to spin under load as far as I can tell. Will upload a video later.

My goal with the car is to learn how to drift, so I'm not opposed to getting an open diff and welding it to swap in if I can do so without changing transmission and driveshaft.

Wanting to know what my options are here. (Never rebuilt a differential before as well, so tips would be helpful if that's my only option)

It is a "limited slip". If you do have worn plates then I would just rebuild the LSD. When it's running as it should it rocks man. I doubt you'll like the feel of a welded diff... unless you're drifting. Driving it daily will get on your nerves.

You do have an LSD and they're hard to find. I wouldn't ruin it by welding it.

Good to know, I'll look for a thread on how to do the rebuild unless you know of some good sources of info for that. I do plan on drifting the car, it isn't really my daily. Just currently my daily for the next week while my MR2 is getting paint. Uploading video now.
