S4 Engine Install

S4 Engine Install
Well guys, its about that time. I just bought a 1987 GXL 5 spd, that gold color for $400. The previous owner overheated the engine and cracked a rotor housing. I'll be installing a newer/used motor, and just a wanted a little advice. Are their any tips/tricks i can take in? Also, anything to watch for. Keep in mind this is my first time installing a FC Engine, so all the help would be appriciated. I don't need a step by step tutorial, i can figure that out on my own with a service manual. Just wanted to see if anybody had any tips on what to look/watch out for. Ive got all the tools you would think a person would need. Im into the FD world, so its a little different. But i used to own a Black GTU, and had to let her go . Its time to start anew, and have my old FC back again. The motor that is in the car, do you think its fixable? I havne't had a chance to take it out and tear it down yet. But what are the possibilities of something else being fried? I'll swap the motor in that im buying, it has 85K on it, but the blown one in the car only has around 30K, so if it is fixable i might have it sent off and built up and have some major porting done . Sorry for the long post, if anybody has some advice please feel free to let me know. Thanks,
Aaron.

I picked up my 88 gtu for $500. Kid thought it was blown. As soon as i got the titled i pulled the inj fuse and unflooded the car. He looked pissed when i started it up and drove off haha.

Well then basically just pay attention to what goes where and it should be very simple. The only thing that I found to be easier for me was pulling the tranny with the motor. I also installed a new tailshaft seal, changed gear oil, cleaned it up, and installed a short throw shifter when I had the tranny out. All in all it is pretty easy.

There is a write up in the tech section of the rotary resurrection website that I found quite helpful. I printed it out (4 pages) and used it as a guideline. I changed mine last week, and it went pretty smooth. If you have the time; I would go through the aux ports, injectors, and maybe change your pulsation damper while you have it out.

Oh btw...do you think anything else would be fried besides the motor? Ex...radiator or anything? Im going to check all the lines and what not while its out. Also, the motor im putting in (after i put it in anyway) will have NOT been started for like 6-8 months. Are their any words of precaution? or any ways I can get the engine "lubed" up for a smooth start? I don't want anything to have siezed up over this amount of time, i dont think it would, but you never know.

Anybody? Im also looking at some how to guides. The RotaryExtreme is a little harsh since i will admit i don't know every part of the engine yet...so its difficult to understand what their talking about sometime if i don't know where its located. The FSM on engine removal is pretty decent, it could use some more detailed pictures for a rookie like me. If anybody has any help/input at all, please let me know. I need to do this right the first time. I'll also want to remove all emissions, AC PS Air Pump, and plug the FPD. I'll have Guitar Junkies pulley set. I could just use all the help i can get. I've been reading so much latley im getting a headache. Isn't their and engine install/removal DVD? Not trying to be lazy, i just want to LEARN! Thanks guys.

I would say just go for it.
Honestly years ago when I got my T2 it had a locked up/blown motor. I never touched a rotary and I pulled and dropped another motor in with no problem. Now I can do it easily and quickly and I never used a manual or video.
Personally I have pulled just about any engine out there and FC was the easiest to pull and drop back in.

I know one member here had a video of him his in like 45 min. or something like that. It was pretty quick.
