I think his username is v8killa Check out his write up - it's much better than the Rotary Resurrection one..

Also search auto and my username for some S4 Auto->manual wiring help ^_^

So in this write up it says I have to use the auto crossmember and fabricate some crap, why can't I just use the crossmember I have???

you cant. the mount points on the 5speed shell are in a different location than the auto. the mounts themselves can be cut off and moved by any qualified person. its not a huge deal but it is a damper.

I thinkso... But it's slightly different [Never tried it though..]

Fabricating the adapter mounts is actually much simpler than v8killa's adapters, if you don't mind a couple mm difference in transmission height at the rear [hasn't caused me any problems].

Go to Home Depot or wherever and buy the thickest piece of angle iron they have [should be around 2mm thick if I remember correctly..] use v8killa's measurements to drill the holes and voila! Cheap and easy manual adapter, that's better than the Rotary Resurrection writeup's.

That's what it'll look like done and installed. [mine]

And if you look at post #7 in there, that's ALL you have change wiring wise for an S4. ^_^

If ur like me and lucky enough to have had a 5spd donor car, cut the mounts out of the 5spd chassis and weld them onto the auto chassis

lol XD

I re-read my post and want to clarify, the picture of my adapter mounts looks nearly identical on both sides [just a straight piece of angle iron on each side, attached to the auto-body-side-mounts and the Auto crossmember]

Oh, and something else helpful... When you're swapping the pedals, you don't have to drop the column and take out the whole assembly.. Just undo the long bolt that the brake/clutch are mounted to. It'll be a little tight but easily do-able [I pulled the whole assembly out of a manual car, and then just the bolt out of the auto and I was able to install the manual bolt+clutch/brake pedals with the assembly still in place]
...Also, when you're halfway through that part[auto bolt/brake pedal removed], install your clutch master cylinder, it'll be the only time in your car's life that it'll be very easy to get at the nuts for it.

Are those brackets legit? I'm concerned about them taking a dump...

The ones in my picture have been running the car since about Oct 09'. The picture attached is from Dec 15 2010 B)
Still working perfectly with DDing [and 157 RWHP!] Angle iron is very stiff.. Driving it around, feels just as stiff as proper manual mounts.

you throw everything manual in with a jack holding your tranny up. then measure the angle iron and cut then drill the hole for the manual transmission (stock manual mount removed) then weld that to the auto transmission mount and bolt them in. 55/54mm skateboard polyurethane wheel works perfect for a mount bushing.

Auto to manual swap is easy, save for the trans mounting and getting the reverse lights and starter wiring to work. I'm still working on wiring on my car. I was actually surprised at now easy it was to install the clutch hydraulics and pedals though, I was thinking that would be the hardest part. Just get someone to make you some mounts or move the stock ones if you can't do it yourself... As for wiring, I'm still lost. lol

DaBrkddy >> S4? If so, see my picture above for starter/reverse light wiring ^_^ [S5 has a different plug.. Check your Haynes, same idea]

I forgot to mention, using the angle iron, just like V8killa's writeup, you MUST use an S5 manual trans with your auto crossmember. [Or at least an S5 tailshaft housing on an S4 trans..]

You can.... With an S5 tailshaft housing :/

The S4 manual transmission has a Y-bracket that attaches with two vertical bolts to the housing, the S5 and auto use 4 [3 on the auto, but that doesn't matter] little diagonal bolts.

There's no reasonable way to modify the crossmember or Y-bracket to accept the S4 style.

But if you can source one [Pineapple Racing? Atkins?] an S5 manual tailshaft housing should be pretty easy to swap onto your S4 trans. [This is what I had to do.. Someone sold me a trans that came out of an 89, but it was S4 style.. Rob at Pineapple had one and installed it for $50 if I remember correctly.]

Craaaaaaaaaap..... Would it be better to just use an S5 tranny? (assuming everything else that I have will work, clutch, flywheel, slave and master, yadda yadda.......)

Once you swap the tailshaft housing the transmission should be near as makes no difference the same.
If you're not close enough to someone that can supply you with the housing... Then it would be easier just to source the trans. I imagine shipping the housing probably wouldn't be worthwhile, but you could shoot Rob an email?

"Hey I need an S5 tailshaft housing for my S4 manual transmission, do you have any and if so would it be unreasonably expensive to sell and ship one to me?"
