One man's trash is another man's treasure. If the deal exposes you to risk that threatens your financial survival, walk away. If you have pockets full of money and don't mind taking a little bath, take a chance.
I have purchased 5 different RX7's. Two were pretty close to described condition. One was misrepresented by 'evil' intent to screw me. Two were not as described, but could possibly just be a difference in opinion. I did not overpay for any of these cars. I also did not screw any of the sellers. 2 of them I payed the asking price (one ebay auction). The others were negotiated when the cars were exposed as not as described. The sellers repriced, I did not make offers. One was a walk-away with a call back weeks later.
We are all hoping for a good deal to get a better car than we are paying for. People! This is just NOT going to happen! This is NOT a crapshoot! This is a process! These cars are old. They have good and bad work done on them. And by the way, just what the hell is 'normal rust???'
This 'Hope' makes us excitable and susceptible to getting less than we pay for, not more.
For example, I looked personally at a 10 Anni last week that got me really excited. The ad was perfectly precisely written and was accurate. So were the medium resolution pictures. The problem was that the car was EXACTLY what was advertised! It was unfortunately not what I hoped it was. For $4500, I can put my project on a better footing than this car would start at. I passed on a pretty decent car. It is a good deal for someone else at that price, maybe.
Every one of the deals surrounding the RX7's I have purchased contained some level of intentional lies told to either make the sale go smooth or to rip me off at some level. My first goal when buying an old car is to make the deal fair for me or walk away. I won't screw anyone and won't be screwed. I have a personal rule that I MUST look over a car before I pay money. No see, no moolah. Compression test Mandatory. I tell the seller that and he may or may not have a good battery when I arrive. So I bring a battery and a compression tester plus tools. Cold start coolant seal test-Mandatory. I tell the seller in advance that I MUST cold start it and why. If I get there and the motor is warm, I assume the motor is bad and seller knows it. No deal? No problem. There is always another car somewhere else.
End of rambling philosophic rant. Maybe this helps.

Well it doesn't sound like it was stored in the best of conditions.
He just parked it one day and there is sat for 12 years.
Think I'm going to let this one go.
I'll have the cash for the 87 TII for sale by Grip Wednesday.

I've been watching that car since it went up for sale.

except this guy plans on buying the car and driving it home, so its not like he is buying it and having it shipped like you did
you buy a $1000 car you take your chances I guess, you spend a few bucks then spend a little more and get off your *** and go look at the car.

Some people cant just drop their lives (Iraq) to fly to NC to pick up a car to drive it back.
My point stands, people lie.
