S4 13bt? or S5 13bt?
If the motor is outside of the car I think the only way you can really be sure is by the year of the engine. 89 and up was s5 and 88 and down was s4. Maybe someone else knows another charcteristic of the s5's compared to the s4's...
The OMP is also different. The OMP on s4 is mechanical so It will have what looks like a little valve on it. the OMP on a S5 is electrical so it will have two little electrical connectors on it. Also the turbos are different from s4 and s5. The S5s have a noticebly larger wastegate. Look on the rear turbine housing and it will have a big "bulge" where the bigger wastegate is. S4 turbos dont have the bulge.
Thanks willl do. Can you tell by the stock intercooler cause ive seen 2 types, one that says 13b turbo intercooler and another one that says Turbo II intercooler? The one am looking @ says 13b turbo intercooler.
hmm.. Not to sure on the intercooler. I know the JDM ones say something along the lines of "rotary turbo intercooled" or something similar. But anyways, heres a few pics to help identify a little more. The S5 OMP looks like this.. and where the red circles are is where its located at. Also, one more difference on the s4 and s5, is the oil return line. The S5 line as the two bolts in a vertical position on the front cover where the S4 has them in a horizontal position.

1. The S4's knock sensor is on the iron. S5 is on the housing.
2. The S4 has a cast aluminum thermostat neck. The S5 is plastic.
