I bought a s5 na engine and there is numbers engraved on the top of the housings. Does anyone know what they mean? on the front rotor housing it says re97and on the rear it says gb425. Also there was a "R" written on the rear rotor housing in flourecent paint and a "F" on the front was it rebuilt? Guy said it was a mazda replacement. Any help is appreciated

i believe mazda stamps them on reman housings. i tend to see them on a number of engines that appear to have been rebuilt but i don't ever recall seeing them on any original engines.

 

so most likely its a mazda rebuild? I hope so. Joe Bobs rebuilt rotarys doesnt sound as good as REBUILT BY MAZDA.

 

a mazda REMAN will have a blue mazda badge with a VIN glued onto the front cover.

 

Mazda rebuilding an engine doesnt mean its good...

 

Yeh, likely just expensive
