S-AFC II issues

My Throttle is reading 95.7% all the time! Haha just kidding. I'll figure that one out eventually using the search feature unless someone wants to just post that on here real quick.

The real question is this: I just installed an S-AFC II on my 86 GXL. Everything works just dandy aside from the afore mentioned throttle problem. Anyway, I've haven't adjusted any settings so in theory it should run just like stock. Well for the most part it does, unless I hit second really hard(see also: take 1st gear to 7500 and shift swiftly into 2nd gear.) The first time I did that it was like the motor died right then and there, just no power and the car lurched really hard. So I shifted into third and my exhuast noise came back, and she ran just fine. Second time it happened I shifted into second and again, I lost power like the engine had died, but this time the exhuast sputtered and coughed like it was doing a couple of little flame shots or something. This whole thing has me very unnerrved I'm planning on getting it tuned on Tuesday provided I can get the throttle working right, so I need to figure this out quick! thanks for any help.

It sounds like you need to go back to ETC and looking at CAR SELECT and making sure it still is 4CYL AND ARROW UP TO THE RIGHT. Then go to SENSOR TYPE and making sure its still on FLAP. Press NEXT and make sure it's reading 05 IN and 05 OUT.

Then maybe go to SENSOR CHECK and make sure the TROTTTLE is approx 1.0000 volts with a fully warmed up car.

Then go to to SETTING and look at L0 THROTTLE and HI THROTTLE and make sure you have not added or subtracted anything.

If the problem persists.....remove the SAFC and see if the car is the problem and not the SAFC.

Do I do all this with the car on or off. I did all the settings with the motor off, key in on position. Just the way you said them...

No, it reads like that ALL The time, never wavers throttle position has no effect on what my screen says.

Go to ETC and down to INITIALIZE. Click on it and push YES. That gets you back to square one.

Now go to what I said in the first post...FLAP AND ARROW UP TO THE RIGHT , 4CYL, IN 05 OUT O5.

Now go to SENSR CK. Look at you Thrtl voltage. It should read one volt. If not, fully heat the engine and turn the tps screw till one volt shows on the SAFC SENSR CK page.

Now step on the throttle and let off. The voltage reading on the SNSR CK should have gone up and down. From one volt up to maybe 4 volts or so. So the question is: Did the voltage go up and down?

If it did not, then you TPS is bad, OR the SAFC is toast, OR you did not wire the SAFC right. The SAFC should be going to the GREEN/RED wire on the middle plug of the ECU. That's the output wire FROM the TPS to the ECU.

I can't tell you where or what wire on the SAFC should be connected to the GREEN/RED wire. I'm not near a manual or a car right now (Texas prison release programm {TXPRP} and am only let out in the day time , but I trust you have a manual and will revisit your installation.
