You seem to have some self doubts about the radiator (which it probably is), so just go down to the junk yard and make a careful selection of a pre-owned radiator for fifty bucks. Put it on and see what happens. What are the chances that you would get one that is just as clogged up as yours? (don't answer that one). You should see a difference if it was indeed the radiator. I assume you have high temps when driving also and do not have radiator fluid regurgitating in the overflow tank during and after driving, and that you are not losing radiator fluid. The stock radiator should run (on a 87 anyway) in the lower quarter of the gauge or if you will around 180 degrees. Does that in Texas and we're just this side of Hell, so if you are in where ever USA , then it should read just as cool. Did I say never ever, ever, ever , ever put any type of stop leak in your radiator? It will stop water from leaking from one side of the radiator to the other alright. You did not do that, but some people do and wonder why the radiator is'nt as efficient as it should be. Duh! Oh! By the way, your timing is'nt retarded, is it? That'll add few degrees to the temp.

First off, DO NOT USE RADIATOR LEAK FIXERS! Not sure about the "uncloggers" but I would stay away from those too. What you need to do it flush your coolant to get that out of the way. If you think the radiator is clogged, turn the car on and let it warm up. Not overheat but enough so everything is warmed up. Then turn it off and feel all over the radiator and see if there is any noticeable differences in temperature. The different temps would be a result of a clogged radiator. Do that & the coolant flush and see what happens. Also you never said if there are any other problems or anything else you repaired or changed lately. Did the car overheat all of the sudden?
