rx7 worth it..?
so here's the deal i'v owned 3 rx7's... my first... was a 88gxl it kept catching on fire.. the fuel lines always managed to leak no matter how many times was fixed.. second car was a 85 gsl se and @ 177k miles it just never turned on.. compression was fine the engine turned but just wouldnt start. third car car... finaly a 87turbo II ... man that car was a dream.. but it wouldnt start sometimes.. it was wierd.. id have to leave it in first move the car just a little.. then it would turn on.. i was like wtf..? but the thing that bugged me the most of all .. is ... all 7's would have an idle issue .. after a while.. it would idle all wierd.. like the rpm's would bounce.. sometimes the car would drop in rpm's so low the car would turn off.. is it me...?
reason being im asking is because i <3 rotary.. and am considering another turboII

Sorry you've had such bad luck with the Sevens. I would say my 90 Turbo II is definitely worth it. It's not without its problems, but it's a good learning experience and very fun to drive. If you do get another one, get the turbo. Maybe you will get lucky and this one won't give you (many) problems. Good luck.

Not worth it if you buy a cheap bad one. A good one will cost more up front, but it'll save you money in the long run (same goes with any car).

I'm on my 2nd RX-7 and both ran great. 1st one was $380 at auction, lost it in a 40mph accident on a bad turn when the roads were really slick. 2nd one was $2500 and I still have it. I used above buyer's guide for it. I took/take both on really long trips: hundreds of miles, up and down cold mountains, etc.
Always have a mechanic check out the car before you buy it, whether you stick with an RX-7 or switch to another car. If you want reliability Toyota or Honda is in general the way to go. Or just get a 240. If you're drifting I wouldn't want you wrecking '7s.
Hey, I know. Why don't you try tow auctions? A former mechanic buddy of mine said he used to get cars from auction all the time, and they were generally in much better shape than ones he bought from people. He called them "disposable cars" and he could generally resell them at about $1500. He bought and sold so many that he had to either cut back or get a used car dealer's license. His reasoning was that people who sell their car generally have a reason why they want to get rid of it. Whereas at tow auctions you know the car ran fine before it got towed. That's how I got my first RX-7. The auctioneer started the engine, I held out my cell phone to it, and my friend said it was good. OTOH people have a reason why they didn't pick up their car from the tow yad. The paint on my first RX-7 was faded to butt ugly, it had some major dents, a smashed window, an exhaust leak and 200k miles on it. No real mechanical problems, though. Had a mechanic check it out. He said it was in great shape. Said it must have had a new engine or something. After a while it ran hot, but still ran fine. It didn't do that when I first got it, so I suspect it was the aftermarket thermostat. My dad saw the temp gauge at 1/4 and said, "It's too cold, better get a new thermostat." <slaps forehead>. Well, that "fixed" it right away... and even more later. At the time I didn't know not to use aftermarket thermostats.

If you get a good one it'll reward you with relatively trouble free driving for years to come, if you get a bad one it'll be a headache untill you finally give up and get rid of it. I bought a good one and paid a lot more for it than a lot of others I looked at but it's been dead reliable, even at track days in 100 degree weather with 2 drivers pounding on it.

I agree with that. If you want a reliable drifter, go with a 240. They're much easier for mechanics to work on if you don't know what you're doing since its a cheap piston import, and I also don't want you wrecking 7's.
I'd go with a 240 if I were you, simply because you're drifting it, and they're probably more reliable.

RX7's are not for those who are not willing to take care of them,sounds like youve bought from some of those people before,don't let them give RX7's a bad rap.buy one worth buying,with maint records low mileage...take real good care of it, and youll be hooked for life...and drift a 240 theres a ton of them and it won't hurt my feelings if ya wreck every one of them,p.s hondas and nissans are like buttholes everyones got one and most of them stink,sorry guys I HATE HONDAS,nissans are ok i guess
