does it sound normal when it starts up for those few seconds??? sounds like a big vacuum leak or a sensor is unplugged somewhere. have you worked on it at all prior?

deff NOT ur apex seals. clearly you know nothing about rx7s.

make sure the AFM is plugged in. if it is, replace it.

Sounds like a vacuum leak.

Here is how it works:

the fuel system has a safety interlock that will inhibit the fuel pump if there is no signal from the AFM stating the engine is running. HOWEVER, this isnt too good for starting, so while you are in the start process, the AFM interlock is bypassed in order to get the engine running. Once you move the key back to "run" the ECU looks to the AFM to ensure the engine is running. If it is, the fuel pump is left on.

If that signal is missing due to a malfunctioning AFM or a large vac leak, the engine will cease to run in about 5 seconds, or about the time it takes to deplete the residual fuel pressure in the lines.

Was the damage from the removal of the SAFC (stolen) repaired? If so, you probably have no AFM signal.

Rock on..

Well you ARE aware that the SAFC intercepts the AFM signal and modifies it, correct? If the wiring is still there and the SAFC is not, then it stands to reason the signal isnt reaching the ECU. Thats why with every SAFC, there is a bypass wire included in the packaging in case you run into troubles.

You need to find the pin on the ECU that is the AFM signal, trace it back and find and tie it back together (they are split when you install an SAFC).

Test the IAC valve. It's on the left side (drivers side) of the engine.

One way to test it is unplug the IAC valve on the engine and try to start it. If its reacts the same same way as when it's plugged in, then thats your problem.

well i have a up date on my problem well i was out of tow for a month and got back last week. well i was working on the rx7 2 see if i could fix it i was told that the safc was supost to be set to 0 correction (have every thing set to 0?) but then one of the other owners said that it dosent need a safc at all so i un hooked the safc and wired up the ecu and it would start up and run for a few sec and then shut off so im not sure what it is so it could be a few things that was listed earyler but do u think the ecu could be bad. cause i had the safc hooked up and the car started up and would idle at 2k and would hesitate really bad when i hit the gas and i was just wondering what would be the best way to go about fixing it .hook the safc back up and set it to 0 correction or just barrow a ecu and see if thats it .just go threw all the sensors that could be unhooked or bad . do u think it could be grounds, vacuum leaks,or the idle speed adjustment needs 2 get messed with.

thanks
