rx7 + roadcourse car

I am planning on building a rx-7 for road course racing. It solo so it just me agaist the clock. I am trying to make a plan. It was suggested that I get a base model NA with the sport brake package then get a turbo drivetrain and swap it in. Also the person said that for more power I need a custom exhaust and custom turbo piping to a FMIC rather then a top mount IC. What kind of costs am I looking at. I am looking to make a car that I can keep evolving. It will also need a roll cage most likely.

if yer talkin about SoloII/autocross then one major deal is to try and keep the wheight down. some people like a well tuned N/A for autocross.

FC's are awesome for road racing and autocross tho.

good luck and have fun

It for road course racing. By that track racing without the other cars on the track it like autocross but faster of course. You need lots of power to be competitive with all the porsche there in the higher class I plan on working my way up to.

Dont waste money doing a TII driveline swap.
If you are going to go SOLO racing like Autocross SCCA.. you will be soo far outclassed if you do that it will be silly. That would take you out of the stock classes into prolly.. Mod or some such.. and then you would be racing against things that are very very badass.

Just get a 86 or 87 sport. Get a fresh engine rebuild, shocks and springs.. and a good swaybar and nice tires.. and learn the art of going fast smooth. You will beat a lot if you can drive with a combo like that.

Spend money on a Seat, good tires and light rims, Exhaust, and a fresh engine. (fresh engine after a season with a non-smoking old one)

There is someone on this forum with a black s5 N/A that is only used for road racing. I think he has a custom 5.10 rear end (bad idea if your car is not only ment for the track), full cage, and a single exhaust that is loud as hell. I talked to him and watched him race at last years Rotary Revolution. Maybe you can find out what his setup all has. I am not sure on his name in the forum, maybe someone else will know.

don't be scared to come to the race car tech section and ask us

Edit: You really need to find out the rules for the organization you plan to race with. Find out whats legal in each class and stuff like that. From my personal experience I wouldn't start out with a blistering fast/modded car because you need to learn to get a feel for the car and racing. My vote is to start off with minor performance things like exhaust, good brakes, cage, suspension before you just go and put a TII motor and stuff in. Like I said read the oragnizations rules first regardless to make sure you build it correctly.

You could save yourself a bundle of time/money/headache by browsing the back of grassroots motorpsorts for someone's used IT prepped car.
