Uh, Transmission Help

Alright today i was changing the fluid in my tranny and i guess i was snoozing and instead of taking out the fill plug i took out this about 24 MM bolt to the left of it. a bunch of oil came out, really black oil, and i was like ah crap i took out the wrong bolt. so i put it back in and used the right fill plug.

question is: where did all this oil come from? i don't know what's wrong but i can't figure it out. i ripped this picture off the haynes manual for some help. i figured if oil came out, i need to put some more in.

That is the banjo bolt that allows engine oil to flow from the engine to the oil cooler thats in the front of the car. Its like a radiator for oil to help keep it cool.

You'll have to replace as much engine oil as came out when you pulled the plug. You may have emptied the oil cooler if you left that bolt out long enough.

yeah, add oil until the dipstick says full. Turn on the engine and let it get up to normal temp. That should get the oil hot enough to open the thermostat on the oil cooler and let it fill with oil. Check the dipstick and add as required.

If the oil that came out was "Really Black" as you said, you probably should change your oil.

stop looking at my rx's underside perv... hahah

and as for the black oil, that's what threw me off cause i had just changed my oil about 1000 miles back and i've been changing it at 2.3k mile intervals.

maybe you should check out your oil cooler and the lines to it - they could be plugged up and have oil sludge in there. at least check your oil more often and change it as soon as it gets black...

only the oil from that bolt was black. when i use the dipstick to check the oil every 250 miles the oil on the stick is normal color.
