Question Rx7/Porsche ?? again...

Can my '88 SE beat a '88 944 S2, or are they turboed? I don' t know much about these cars, but a buddy of mine bought one....its sweet....how fast? Can I hang w/ the 2.5" exhaust(no cats)....and cone filter?

Depends on what you mean by "hang with"?

I do track events with the local PCA chapter and I'm grouped with non-turbo 944s all of the time. It basically comes down to driver skill in an equally prepared car. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't...

BTW - the 944 S2 is not a turbo car. I don't have a prayer against a well prepped 944 Turbo or Turbo S

Yea, I didn't think it was Turbo..he didn't know either at the time we spoke, lol. I looked up the specs and it says 0 to 60 in 6.6sec so..I think he's faster..but the fun part is that I believe its an automatic...and if it isnt and automatic...then I'll DEFINATELY win because he hasn't learned to drive a 5spd yet

I just have one question, WHY are people buying cars they know nothing about??? I understand not understanding all the intracacies but the basics. Not knowing if your car is turboed or not, come on guys at least learnt that much.

I'm kinda old and don't remember things very well, but I thought that back when my 88 SE was new, the NA 944 had the same performance as my car, but was geared more for top end than acceleration. How does 9.0sec 0-60 and 124mph top end sound for the 88 NA 944? Anyway, 6.6sec 0-60 sounds more like stats for a 944 Turbo.

Hehehe, hey, after your friend leans how to drive a 5-speed, why don't you teach him how to read so that he can see if his car has a turbo or not. :p

Well he just saw it at the dealership, and was like "Man, that thing is sweet...wonder how much?" thats about all it took, lol...I dont think he has even driven it yet....he told his dad about it, and his dads the only one doing anything w/ the car so far(my friend isn't really into cars, but wants to be, that kinda thing)...the cool part is, his dad is an insurance agent, and a friend of the family.....so we both have good insurance rates

the 944S was a diffrent beast from the stock 944 .. it was only produced in 87-88 and had a 16V motor compared to the stock 944's 8 valves..
stock 944 put out about 150 HP while the S version gave it 188HP.. in 89 they replaced the S with the S2 which bumped HP to 208 hp ..

in my opinion a stock 944 is a good match with a n/a FC .. however the "S" would beat the FC hands down (even if it was an automatic)

Your right Chris! The 944S2 is going to be much faster than a na RX-7, but if its a Auto, then its closer, at least off the line. I know I sure miss my 89 944 Turbo S, a great car in every aspect!
