Unhappy Once again...

Same old, same old...

My 85's stock carb is a little abnormal these days...
Today and yesterday while i was going into a curve around 40mph, the car suddenly shuddered and lost alot of power. the pedal was also hard to push down... coming out of the turn, i take my foot off the pedal and it becomes normal again...

What's to do?!
I'm thinking of a re-build soon... is it very hard?

can ya also tell me when my secondaries should open up?

No, your secondaries will not open up while the car is sitting still. You have to have it under load. Take a twist tie from a bread wrapper and loosely bend it over the secondary linkage, run the car on the road, the secondaries should open up around 3500 to 4K rpm. Come back and see if the twist tie was bent open if you can't feel them open. Unless your carb is really smooth on the transition you should be able to feel them though.

Better to not have them open than have them get stuck open... Ask me how I know.

Floor it in third gear and watch the RPM's climb.

2000, 3000, 4000, SECONDARIES!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you get punched in the chest and lean back in the seat, The car rockets foreward with a very soft chirp from the rear tires on damp road.

Previous Owner (female, no offense ): "I always shift at around 3500."
Me: "Well, that's great!"

Me, 2 years later after cleaning the carb: "Stupid..."

I think the root of the problem is that my carb in the beginning was VERY dirty (i just couldn't see)... thus when i used the cleaner, it only helped to clog up my secondaries... plus when i did clean my carb, i did not force open the secondaries since they won't open on my driveway
should i force open the secondaries and feed it some more cleaner? Or do i have the wrong reason for this problem?

Any help appreciated!

When you say the secondaries won't open, do you mean you can't manually open them with the linkage. Or, do you mean they won't open in the driveway while cracking the throttle open while the car is running?

They will not open just sitting still, no matter how hard you rev the car. You will not produce enough vacuum. They will only open under load, i.e. running down the street. The vacuum created in the carb "sucks" the secondaries open. There can be a number of reasons why they won't open under load.
1. There is a vacuum leak in the diaphram which is causing an air leak and therefore not enough vacuum to open the secondaries.
2. The secondary fuel inlet tubes (can't think of the proper name right now) are plugged with gunk.
3. The secondary throttle linkage is binding or disconnected.
Try these and see what works.
hope this helps,
hanman

Yes, you should be able to feel them kick in. I could on my stock Nikki. About 3500 rpm. With my new Yaw carb you can't really feel them kick in, it is a very smooth transition.

I'm just hoping it's just a little clogged.... A LITTLE...
I'm thinking about manually opening the secondaries (on my driveway) and then giving it a healthy amount of carb cleaner... think that's safe? (i gotta know b4 i try cuz i love my 7 )
