I just unclogged mine a couple weeks ago using a long screwdriver, sounds like your pretty screwed though if you can't get it with a coat hanger or compressed air.

I use the 1' springy handle of a mechanics pick-up magnet. Its only about 1/4" wide and is flexible enough to maneuver though the whole thing.

I had some issues when unclogging my drain tubes. Try going from the underside of the drain and work up. A thin coat hanger should do the trick. Once I got the major clog removed I used a rifle bore cleaning rod with 7.62mm copper brush to scrub any residual crud off. If the 7.62 is too big, try a 5.56/.223 cal copper brush. It will have to navigate thru the bend of the tube.

I think you want to stick with the coat hanger. Just about any screwdriver that's long enough to reach the bottom is going to be thick enough that it will either get stuck itself or deform the drain tubing. Using some pliers to straighten out a coat hanger, you can make a cleaning tool long enough to reach from the drain clear down to the ground.

You might have more luck approaching from under the car. IIRC, from under the car you can see the flexible rubber tubing which attaches to the rigid drain tube. Look between the rear bumper and the rear wheel well. Maybe the tubing is kinked, or the clog is closer to the bottom and it would be easier to reach from that end.

And once you do get it unclogged, blast the drain clean with some pressurized water from your garden hose. I do this by holding a spray nozzle tightly against the upper drain openings. You might be surprised at the crud that blasts out of there.

who knew you could clean an RX-7 drain with the same stuff you use to clean an AK-47 and an AR-15.

don't forget to use a little gun oil when your done!

Seriously though the cleaning rod thing is a good idea.

Ok, so after carefully reviewing the car and spending some money on useless stuff i discovered that, there is actually a little drain rubber hose that goes from the drain to a hole by the tail light. The hose is held by a small hose clamp. So i got the problem fixed. The stupid hose was clogged with dirt, and puntured so i had to use plumbing tape and black tape so make sure it doesn't leak again. Thank you for all of you who posted and now i'm officially an rx7 plumber.

p.s.

Please don't bother to nominate for a nobel prize for discovering this hose... thanks...

There's a tool called a plumber's snake or something like that that is basically just a long flexible metal rod to poke away at obstuctions in drains. Probably would be the perfect thing for those hatch drains.

Remove hose. Clean or buy a new one. Replace hose.

EDIT: Nevermind you already found it. Thanks for confirming the solution I read in another thread, I'll remember that when I care enough about my hose. The other random solutions posted in that thread didn't work for people either, btw.

Or you could just have read my post from earlier in the thread in which I wrote:

Thumbs up

Let me tell you... when i took that little hose out that **** was so thick not even a steel rod would have gone through... It is just safer to take the hose out because with the metal hanger i could punture the hose and then have to replace it...
