I t sounds like it is flooded,
Pull the EGI Comp fuse, push the gas pedal to the floor and crank it over for about 10 seconds. Then put the fuse back in, and crank it normally with out touching the gas. the first 3 steps should unflood it.

Okay did you swap the entire engine out for a new one?

Or.

Rebuild it?

Oh here we go again.

1) Engine turns very very sluggishly over. Like the starter has a hard time turning the flywheel because its too stiff.

Possible Solution: (You don't wanna Know).

2) Engine turns easily and Nothing happens at all.

Possible solution: Correct Timing. Make sure you have Lead #1 from coil going to the lead #1 sparkplug and lead #2 going to Lead #2 sparkplug and trail #1 etc...

Also, make sure you tighten down the battery terminals with a wrench. Don't just assume their tight cause your hand says so.

MAF located on your airbox is not plugged in or plugged in incorrectly ETC. Also, you did put the crank angle sensor in correctly? You can't just simply put this in and say "Its go Time".

4.) Engine turns and turns and turns, cows come home and starter is fried .

Possible Solution: Get an Exorcist, certified mystic or baseball bat. A good rotary mechanic will work too. Then proceed to remove the offending Demons from your engine.

Do know how to prime the fuel lines? If so. Pull the eng INJ fuse in your main fuse box so that it won't flood your engine over and over, again. And never crank for longer than 10 seconds.

Oh yeah, fuses. Check all related to engine.

Good luck

thanks. ive tried steps 1-4 and still nothing. the motor came from a shop. i didnt have it rebuilt. the shop deals mainly with j-spec but i know the guy and he found this motor for me. the motor ran in tha last car it was in. it only has about 80k miles in the motor. tommarrow m gonna try the ATF trick gain. i talked to some guy last night that said to put it in through the throttle body but i didnt cuz i didnt think it would make it to the rotors. thanks for all the help guys. this is my first rx-7 and i loved it for the first month i had it then it blew and has been down for about 4 months

It really all comes down to three things, as I am sure that you know:
1. Compression, does it have any? enough? flooded? Pull the plugs and find out.
2. Spark, does it have any? pull the plug wires/plugs and find out.
3. Fuel/Air for combustion, does it have any?

I know that this is an oversimplification, but, really unless you get logical and check all these possibilities you won't ever know.
just my opinion,
hanman

I went through this before

This is exactly what I went through, and here is what got me started after 5 days of trying.

1. Make sure timing is right. Connect an inductive timing light to L1 and point it at the timing point. Have someone else crank. Make sure that the Yellow dot comes up when the light flashes.. Its not exact, but it gets you in the ball park

2. Change your plugs and use NGK!! (but dont install them yet!!!)

3. Do the ATF trick, but inject the ATF into the oil injection hose. Do this by looking at the throttle body\from the front of the car. There are 3 vacuum hoses that should be pointing at you in a group. Its the LARGER hose you want. Put about 1/3 cup in.

3. With plugs still removed, crank the FU-K outta the motor. Make sure you floor it too. What I did was count to 15.

4. Go have a beer or a coke or whatever and forget the car for about 24 hours.

5. Put the new plugs in , and make sure you got them right. And connect the wires back up (maje sure you got them right too).

6. Ensure the WHOLE air intake from the airbox back is hooked up!!! And make sure the electrical connector on the AFM is hooked up.

7. Crank away, DONT HIT THE GAS!! Be ready for the EPA or the Fire Department to come, its gonna smoke like holy hell...

Good luck...

30 is in the NOT WORTH A DARN catagory. Ain't never, never, ever gonna start. Only hope is to put some oil down the throttle body, maybe a cup at first, rotate the engine without the lead plugs, put the lead plugs back in, and give it a try. Its a slim hope that after it starts that you will regain the compression. Right now the rotors have been wiped of all oil and therefore you have lost a group of compression and/or the compression was never ever there in the first place. Minimum compression to the best of my lazy memory is 70psi. And your lucky to get one of those to start at all, and if they do they flood out at the very presence of any gasoline.

YOu may have to disconnect the fuel pump to clear gas also...Mine would flood easily for the first day or so...but its getting better all the time.
