RX-7 Winter Projects
I thought it would be fun to discuss the winter projects we are preparing for - never know, maybe we can help each other with some aspect of the projects. Lets keep it rx-7 related.
So to start, I will be finishing the tii transplant in a 91 vert, removing the first gen rotary aviation apex seals from my sons 91na and modding in a tii tranny into a 89 NA vert. The third project is a pet peive of mine. I have given this car to my daughter who promptly blew the third gear sychro (before she has even gotten her license!). As the NA trannys are just plain ***, I am going to beef it up. She cannot be trusted with a full tii so I feel this can be the next best thing.
The 91 project is a full transplant. chassis has 68K on it. Motor is one of my special rebuilds and I am considering going through the gear box as this car will be driven agressivly. I will also be adding a roll bar to the car as I am looking to enter the One Lap of America race. Any real good metal fabbers in the midwest want to make a few $$ or trade for a rebuild or something?

Well when I'm in sc and have time my car is being stripped away. So for winter, when I get back, I need to pull the interior out. It's already dissassembled but is still in the car. Pull the shortblock and reassemble it so someone can buy it. Put her up on jacks, sell rims and tires. Either use dry ice, or man power to pull up all the sound deadning, and heat shield in the interior. Pull everything else out of the engine bay, take off all fenders, and then get ready to pull the unibody off the chasis. Then in summertime possibly dip the body.

I am going to sand my car down in the late fall and drop it off at the local body shop for a paint job. Everything but the engine bay. Right now I'm not sure about colors. Yellow, Dark Silver, Dark Blue, and bright Red are all appealing to me right now. I've got time to think about it though
My project has been slow but steady, and almost finished. I blew the front rotor last October, and after slowing taking things apart, getting the engine rebuilt by Kevin Landers (who was great to do business with), and putting it back in the car, it's only a few more parts away from starting up.
Along the way, I rewraped the ECU harness, replacing any corroded connectors, painted the engine bay, added grounding wires to the coils, ECU harness, engine and transmission, and replaced the alternator and added a 8gauge lead to the main fuse box from the battery, with a separate 10 gauge lead for the interior fuse box.
The impact trim, tail light housings, cowl vent and headlight plastic surrounds were repainted in satin black. So far, I've had the battery in and out of the car several times testing the lights, stereo and antenna, all working fine. Several brackets and the 5th/6th port actuators were sand blasted and painted gloss engine enamel black.
A few performance-adding items include a short shift kit, Kevin's 5th/6th streetport, and FD corner springs, with the installation of a RB header and high flow cat later. Reliability wise, all vacuum hose has been replaced with superblue silicone hose, all the fuel hoses and clamps are replaced, and the old FPD is replaced with a Marren Fuel Pulsation Dampener, with a Summit Racing mechanical fuel pressure gauge, which all attaches to the seconary fuel rail.
I want to at least get it running and on the road by October so I can break the engine in and enjoy the car before putting it back into winter storage. Budget and time permitting, I'll overhaul the brakes with new SS lines, fluid, slotted rotors, Hawk HP pads, and black powder coated calipers.

I... wish I had money. :-(
My project for the winter, assuming I keep my license, is keeping my '7 out of ditches. If/when I drive it. If my beater is still running (50/50 chance) I'll probably just drive that when I need to get places.

Before winter, my car is getting new Tokico Illumina shocks to go with the Eibach ProKit springs I have sitting here, along with new front brakes and SS lines all around.
My winter project is goign to be getting my Dad's (sorta) newly aquired 85 GS 12A 's body and paintwork done.. WE'll be doing all the prep until about the beginning of february, where we shoudl be able to shoot. It'll be metalflake maroon/burgendy color. While it's up on teh stands, we're redoing any spots with rust (including underbody), upgrading to disc brakes in the back, and a few other things.
Should be fun

Installing my reman next weekend after blowing a coolant seal. At the same time I have k2rd coilovers, Greddy FMIC, Koyo radiator, Blitz electric water temp gauge and oil pressure gauge to install. Lots of stuff to do but not enough time with school and work.

Rebuild the engine in my T2, with a porting of somekind...something big =) Interior Restoration in the T2, and the maybe paint and powdercoat my FD RIMS.....and I'm now thinking of re-building the engine in my GXL....SP the primaries, and bridge the secondary ports or something equally cool..

oh, every engine I build get a few "SPECIAL" tricks on the inside. this one will end up with racing clearnce bearings, completly balanced (I hate the standard rotary vibration!) and some other fun stuff

port and rebuild motor...upgrade turbo, injectors, and add fuel computer....upgrade clutch...replace my leaky top...work on my TV so it flips up via motor...maybe even make another baby!..all this should keep me busy..and look for a FD!
