TX Rx-7 High HP build

Hello All!! I am brand new to this forum and also to rx7's. Long story short I just bought an rx7 at a great price and I have a bunch of new parts for it. I would like any suggestions you guys have and what your thoughts are on my setup.

Here is what I have.
1987 Rx-7 GTU ( I think, it was N/A)
S4 Turbo II motor (stock) 47,000 miles on it. Not in car yet. TII tranny and rear end.

Parts not yet on the motor. (just sittin in the garage looking pretty)
GT45 T4/T66 Turbo w/ .66 a/r on compressor and 1.05 a/r on turbine.
3mm Apex seals
Full 3" exhaust with apexi N1 muffler
Cheap manual boost controler (got it for free)
Plan on getting motor full bridge ported.
Front mount intercooler
Stock ECU
Aftermarket turbo manifold (extra chrome for more HP)
Plan on buying external wastegate but not sure which one yet.

Here is what I want. I really want to hit the 500hp mark.
Is it possible with that turbo and a full bridgeport?
What size injectors will I need?
Can I manually adjust (using a laptop) the stock ECU or will I need to buy an aftermarket ECU?
Anything I missed??

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

That's not a real gt45, it's a smaller, lesser quality turbo they call a gt45 just to sell them.

What you need to tell us is how much hp you want at what boost(pump or race fuel) and what you will be using the car for. We can tell you what to do from there.

I will be running 93 octane most of time, with race gas being an occasional thing. I am not sure what kind of boost to expect to run out of a motor like that. What is fairly safe with 93 octane? This isn't a daily driver by the way. The only reason I thought a stock ECU was an option was because I wasn't sure if you could adjust them at all. Any suggestions on an aftermarket unit? The knockoff GT45 is only temporary as well. I figure it will get me in the HP range that a real GT45 would and I want to make sure I am satisfied, otherwise I will go bigger. I really do appreciate all of your help!

I'm not a TII guy..yet..but anything around 500HP is gonna involve CASH..so,a Stand alone for fuel,a Big *** Snail(that is a TURBO!.btw),bigger fuel injectors like 1600 secondarys,a Good front mount intercooler,Breatheable exhaust and intake..so,by the time you get all that together,it should Kick some ***...Oh,If the car WAS N/A,make sure the drivetrain is able to hold the power that you are thinking of achieving..so either a TII driveline from the transmission back, and a Stock TII Diff or a KAAZ or something similar to get the power to the wheels..otherwise you will just wind it up and hear parts flying out the back!..good luck..Let me know how you do,I am gonna do the same thing,Only it's taking me a Bit longer on a Old Guys Pension..Cheers,STYX!~

Hks cast log manifold
Microtec lt8s or haltec e8 (3 bar map)
GT40 or equivilant sized turbo (1.06ar)
Intercooler setup
2 756 and 2 1680 injectors
A large streetport or bridge port
6 puck clutch with HD pressure plate
Have the engine machined to accept extra dowels (s4 weak rear iron)
Aftermarket radiator
Large Tial wastegate
Adj Fuel pressure regulator 1:1
Dual Bosch 044 fuel pumps
shimmed oil pressure regulator
greddy TB elbow
Dual oil coolers would be nice

there is probably more i'm missing but others will add to the list.

As mentioned, the knockoff turbo is a waste of time. Don't bother using it for mockup to swap to a real GT45 as you'll end up having to re-fab you downpipe and turbo outlet pipe.

If you want to make 500HP, a GT40 will do the job at higher boost levels and be a hell of a lot less laggy then the GT45. A GT42 will do those power levels at lower boost levels but you'll get a lot more lag as compared to the GT40.

Plan on getting motor full bridge ported.
You can certainly make this kind of power on a street port. But in my opinion, when we're talking about turbo this large you really want to the fast spooling that a bridgeport will provide. One thing to keep in mind is that a bridgeport is more difficult to tune due to the low vacuum signal, and it will eat through fuel.

Stock ECU
Can I manually adjust (using a laptop) the stock ECU or will I need to buy an aftermarket ECU?
Not a chance on the stock ECU. You need to go standalone.

Aftermarket turbo manifold (extra chrome for more HP)
That's not exactly an option. No stock RX-7 manifold will mount anything but the stock turbos.

Plan on buying external wastegate but not sure which one yet.
50MM or larger. Tial is nice.

What size injectors will I need?
1000CC primary, 1600CC secondary.

Keep in mind, this is a $20,000 project.

yeah i think you may want to stick to like 350hp. that is much more doable and streetable versus a 500hp monster bridgeport.

Really big thanks to all who posted on this!! You guys were really helpfull. I will definately keep all of you updated on the build. I am sure I will have plenty more questions as I get things going.

As for the last post, 350 HP is not what I want. I am not rich but I have been saving for a project car for some time now, so money is not really a huge factor.

Anyone know what the biggest back tire you can fit on these cars without major modifications is??

J Rat...

Your numbers look pretty much exactly what I am looking for. What is your setup if you don't mind me asking?
