Rx-7 does not start, been working on it for a few days...

My S5 rx-7 n/a automatic isn't starting. One day I sat in my car and I tried to crank it and all I heard was the starter motor firing. The belts and fan are moving so the flywheel is good. I've tried replacing the starter with a rebuilt one I borrowed, it's not the starter. When I crank it, there is no gas smell from the exhaust, and I've checked the spark wires for spark, there is spark. I've checked the fuel filter, there is fuel flowing through it. Also, the transmission can shift to all gears. Street cleaning happens every monday so I gotta manually 'park' the car which sucks ***. Can't figure out what's goin' on.......need someone friendly input please.

did you try pulling the plugs and see if they are wet with fuel? while you have them out it wouldn't hurt to do a compression check, the instructions are in the FAQ i believe to do the compression test if you haven't done this before. does it sound like it is cranking evenly or does it have some spots where it seems to have no resistance?

Thx for the reply, it's just a loud even crank. It's the general loud whirring sound coming from the starter. The car doesn't shake at all because the engine isn't responding. I haven't checked the spark plugs (I have no idea why too absorbed I guess) and I haven't done compression test. Car was completely fine a while ago it just sat for a day and this happened. Car has 60,000 miles on it.

wierd things happen to rotaries overnight, just start with the basics: fuel, compression and spark.

Spark plugs are wet, I checked them today. I put some gas in the intake and the engine shook a little, then it went back to not responding. I also checked the fuel filter, gas was spewing out when I cranked it, but it didn't shoot out extremely far, just about a foot. Gas still comes out of the fuel filter end towards the engine. I'm going to try ordering new fuel filters.

You put gas in the intake?! Perhaps the car is just flooded? Try pulling the EGI fuse, cranking for 20 seconds, and putting it back and starting normally.

Don't worry, I put just a tiny bit. I tried pulling the egi fuse, cranking for a full minute, put the fuse back, nothing. I even tried spraying the plugs with brake cleaner to get off the excess fuel, put them back, cranked, nothing again. I'm pretty sure my car is flooded now, I just never knew what flooding was.

unhook the crank angle sensor, crank the engine for 5 seconds, plug the crank angle sensor back in, try to start the car again.

Holy CRAP my car starts now! For some reason I tried to start it again and it started. It smoked like crazy for a while, I guess it's burning the fuel and oil. The EGI fuse pulling trick worked. Thx for the help!
